The board policy manual is also on that site and policy item 9370 states;
The use of any religious materials may be used in the regular classroom to study the historical or cultural aspects of religion but such material is prohibited if used to indoctrinate the practice of a religion.
Dissemination of Religious Materials
Materials that have a religious content may be made available to students during non-instructional time. The District shall impose content neutral, time, place, and manner restrictions on the dissemination of religious materials to ensure that students are aware that the materials are not being endorsed or sponsored by the District.
I would like to go but it looks like their meetings wrap up about 9:30 which makes it too late getting home for Upper Peninsula FFRF members.

Subject: [Freethought-Association-of-Northern-Michigan] Petoskey Schools
I have been notified that there is an item on the agenda for tomorrow night's Petoskey Board of Education meeting that might be of interest to our group. I'm told that on the agenda is the issue of outside groups coming into the school. As you have no doubt read, some schools have allowed certain groups to come in and distribute bibles to the students...a big constitutional no no.
Unfortunately both Christine and I have commitments tomorrow night that will prevent us from attending the Petoskey school board meeting. If any of you would be interested in going to simply listen to what's being said and make a report to the group that would be wonderful. We can help get the time and location if someone is interested.
