Cape Cod Canal Bike Path and Camping weekend

This meetup is cross posted in another group.

I plan to be there early afternoon on 6/21 - start and ends times are approximate. Feel free to head down early, come after work or take a day trip.

The Cape Cod Canal Bike Trail

This bikeway follows the Cape Cod Canal through sections of Bourne and Sagamore, respectively. Maintained by the Army Corps of Engineers, it offers fantastic views of the canal's various boat traffic, along with the area's quaint shoreline scenery of unique homes and natural beauty.

The path is actually the Corp's access road, a paved route designated for government vehicles, foot traffic and non-motorized vehicles only. It runs for approximately 7 - 8 miles between both Bourne and Sagamore Bridges. The Shining Sea Bikeway

The Shining Sea Bikeway hugs the coast from Falmouth to Woods Hole and then beyond to North Falmouth, winding along the Vineyard Sound shoreline. Ideal for casual and beginner cyclists, it was built on a former railroad right-of-way. The paved path is level for nearly its entire 10.7-mile distance with only a slight grade in certain spots.

Lined with familiar Cape Cod flower and tree species, it makes for a wonderful ride from Falmouth to scenic Woods Hole. Following the Old Colony rail line, the newer extension passes through Sippewissett Marsh, by cranberry bogs and overlooks Chapaquoit Beach. The entire route avoids much of Falmouth's notorious summer traffic by winding along the coastline and crisscrossing the Salt Pond Bird Sanctuary. http://www.capecodbikeguide.com/shiningsea.asp

Bourne Scenic Park Campground

Bourne Scenic Park rivals the best accommodations on Cape Cod. Situated on the banks of the world’s widest sea-level canal, this 475-site facility offers shady woods and proximity to shops and grocery stores. And the scenery is extraordinary: gigantic white cruise ships and tankers glide past your campsite along the canal and occasionally give a massive blast on their horns.

From the park, bikers and strollers have several access points to the popular canal service-road bike path where people push baby strollers, walk dogs, bike, and in-line skate all day long. In the summer, the park offers hayrides and live entertainment, including bands and DJs. You can swim in the park’s large saltwater pool. Operated by the Bourne Recreation Authority, the Scenic Park has electric and water hookups, a dump station, playgrounds, a recreation hall, a volleyball court, and activities for children throughout the summer. The country store sells basic supplies, including ice and wood.

Daily tent rates:

$39 for 2 adults 2 children

$39 for 2 adults & $10 for each additional adult - max 4 per site

If tent sites go, there are lots of electric sites still open for $53 daily rate with same rules as above regarding children or extra adults.
