For 21 years
A living Christmas experience for the entire family!
"Look for the lights in the sky!"
A great experience to reflect on a unique moment in history: Feels like a walk through the town of Bethlehem . Click ( http://www.meetup.com/FriendsofSMR/events/41079622/ for last years event and see event reviews and photo pages. It was truly a Beautiful evening .
For three nights each year (December 21, 22, and 23), from 6 - 9:30 PM, and at no monetary cost to you, an empty lot transforms into the bustling town of Bethlehem under Roman rule at the hands of 225 volunteers within the San Mateo County community.
Watch the video at the link below to get a true sense of what awaits you - there is an activity available for every person: from philosophers, animal petting area, camel photo ops, interacting with roman soldiers and a wedding party, watching ceramic artists and blacksmiths, to reflecting on a significant piece of history, you'll participate in a family event.
One of our members (Natalie) participates and choreographed the non-stop 13 routines performed by the manger angels. Watch for the dance intricacies and know that is her trademark.
10 years ago, her niece, sister, and brother-in-law played the holy family. And last year, another of our member's daughter and family took the holy family role.
This member (Laura) also continues to participate; you'll find her handprints on the village children dancing in the village square.
Don't be intimidated at the line length; even being in line gives you a sense of 2000 years ago - it's entertaining and it moves quickly. Perhaps/ possibly we can get VIP entry tickets for the group
Be sure to experience hot beverages, tasty treats, Christmas Carolers, and a train display across the street at the church's Beaulac Hall.
Downtown Redwood City is within blocks for after show entertainment.
Whether you are Christian or not, this is an amazing production!
See you there!
(Please note: The last night of the event in 2011 attracted 4,000 individuals to the transformed lot; obviously, parking may prove a bit challenging. It's best to meet in the parking lot of the Tacos El Grullense eating establishment, gather as a group, and then experience the outside entertainment together before having to pay a shekel (provided) to Ceasar. Once inside, you'll find each person gravitates to different activities and unless the group decides on meeting across the street at the church community center at a certain time, its a personal experience and journey. And, of course, if you can not join the MeetUp group but are available either the 22nd or 23rd, please consider attending one of those evenings.)
