Sioux Hustler Trail Clearing - Saws Only!

Details
Join us for an AMAZING weekend of tree clearing on the Sioux Hustler Trail!
In October 2012, Friends of the BWCA Trails cleared the west side of the Sioux Hustler from the trail head (BWCAW Entry Point #15) to Pageant Lake. On this trip, we’ll finish the loop!
Plan to leave the Twin Cities around 7:00am on Friday. We’ll hit the trail later that morning and will camp on Pageant Lake late Friday afternoon. On Saturday, we’ll continue hiking clockwise around the loop, clearing trees as we go, taking in the vistas along the way (trees larger than 15” diameter will be left for crosscut crews). We’ll make camp and enjoy the splendor on Agawato Lake, Shell Lake, or at Devil’s Cascade Saturday evening. On Sunday, it’s back to the trail head and homeward bound - should reach the Twin Cities no later than 8:00pm.
The terrain and the demands of the trip require participants be be in very good physical condition. They must take part in a training hike (Saturday, May 18) and receive consent from the trip leaders prior to registration/fee payment. Participants must sign/complete a liability waiver, a medical form (for emergencies), and related materials.
Each person is responsible to her/his own backpacking gear. Two or more cook stoves with fuel will be available for group use. Participants are responsible for their own meals/snacks. Saws will be provided; participants are welcome to bring non-motorized saws (crosscut saws will be permitted only if sawyers are USFS certified). Each person must bring protective work gloves. Safety glasses will be provided (participants are welcome to bring their own).
Weather conditions can vary significantly in the BWCA. Be ready for high temps, low temps, clouds, clear skies, and precipitation. Bring appropriate insect protection.
Participants are responsible for their own transportation. Carpooling might be available; riders typically cover/split the cost of gas.
The registration fee is $25.00 per person. It is due by the registration deadline. The fee is non-refundable.
