The east ridge above the Wissahickon (the Chestnut Hill side) and the west ridge (towards Roxborough) top surprisingly different forests. We’ll take a 3.5 mile stroll reaching both ridgetops and enjoying how different the terrain is and how different Wissahickon Creek looks from either side. Come enjoy a comprehensive experience of the Wissahickon Gorge. We will take a leisurely pace, and our paths are sometimes rocky trails up and down hills, but not terribly arduous. Children, accompanied by a responsible adult, are welcome so long as they can manage themselves, the trails, the hills, and needs of other walkers. We’ll plan for around 3 hours. Wear sturdy boots or shoes. Dress for the weather. Bring at least one liter of water. For further information contact Bruce at [masked] Heavy rain cancels.
Registration is required so that you can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or thunderstorms. Long pants are recommended for protection against occasional poison ivy and possible ticks. Bring water and a snack if desired. Unless otherwise noted, children over 7 are welcome if accompanied by a responsible adult. Please email to Sarah Marley, [masked] with any questions.
