Our workshop/social this weekend is about Online Dating and starting over. This week, I had the opportunity to sit down with two of my friends, Carroll and Meg, for breakfast and this subject came up. We were talking about the workshop and the subject was online dating.
After much discussion on the subject we realized and agreed that when we are talking about ONLINE dating, we did not specifically mean Match.com, OKCupid and Plenty of Fish specifically. In reality, those are online dating sites but what we realized within our Friends First Community is that we use the computer to bring all of us together, thus we are an ONLINE group of our own. Through OUR group many people meet girlfriends, guy friends and people to date or life long mates.
THUS when we talk about ONLINE dating and STARTING over, we are talking about every method used, not just dating sites. So to clear this up, ONLINE dating is:
1) all the dating sites-many of you use them and many of you don't. Some feel that this is NOT the way to date and truly dislike them.
2) meeting people through events hosted by the many Meetup groups out there, including OUR group
3) meeting people through the traditional methods-church, friends, night clubs, restaurants and such.
So if you are looking for a method and a way to understand STARTING over, no matter which avenue you use to start over, you still need to educate yourself about starting over, dating and making new friends.
Any of our members who attend out events will tell you that starting over is nothing like what they thought it would be like when they were widowed or divorced. Things have changed since we were in our 20's and 30's. The methods of dating and the mind-set of meeting people has changed.
It does not matter if you are dating or not. It doesn't matter if you have given up or that you are full of hope. Come share your experiences with those that have been dating for some time and with those that are JUST starting out.
Do you ever feel like you never have anyone to talk to and that having a meaningful conversation would mean a great deal with you? These workshops are exactly what the doctor ordered. The subject is something that everyone has something to talk about. It is also so interesting to hear what others have to say as well. The setting is warm and friendly. Sharing dinner over conversation is also enjoyable.
So come to learn something or come to share your experiences!
Our great moderators are back! Ximena, Lori G, Meg, Dianne and a new table moderator, Carroll will be joining us. Did I miss someone? It seems as I write this I am missing a moderator. If so, please remind me!
I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday!
