Hello Mid-week Fobbits.

Some of you have helped to install a ‘No Shooting”sign at MM 6 on Dodds Road. About two weeks after this installation, a full-size vehicle drove over the sign, knocking the sign and the post down, the posts were scattered nearby. We re-installed it a week or so later! This time we made sure it couls not be knocked down, burying it deep, with 6” nails and screws at the base of the posts and a very large and heavy build-up of lava rocks at the base. A week later, probably the same perpetrators cam along with a power saw and sliced thru both posts, and stole them along with the sign. We are not put out by this, nothing puts off Ferocious Fighting Fobbits! We’re going to install this sign once more, in a slightly more difficult location. And then we’ll see what happens to this one. Third time lucky and hopefully it stays “alive”! We will catch these perps at some point.

Let’s plant this sign once more, Friday. After we re-install, there are a couple of other tasks to accomplish, such as breaking down a couple of fire pits in the interior, involving a hike of 5 miles or so. Friday looks to be a good day weatherwise, in comparison to the weather of the previous week. There’s quite a few junipers that have been blown down in Oregon Badlands Wilderness, one of them being the large old one at the entrance to Badlands Rock Trailhead. A BLM heavy equipment crew will be clearing this in the next couple of days.

Reynolds Pond Trailhead also had vandalization this past week. A vehicle had knocked down the porta potty, driven over it and it had been set on fire and completely burned. Sounds like the same modus operandi as knocking down the sign at MM6, however you can never be sure.

Looking for 6-8 volunteers to help re-install the sign and help out with the other tasks. We’ll be out about 4 – 6 hours. Looking forward to seeing you again.
