2014 February Photo Contest: Shades of Blue

  • February 27, 2014 · 11:45 PM

The theme for FEBRUARY is "SHADES OF BLUE" Our January Monthly Contest Winner, Emelyn Morris Sayre has no further explanation for the theme. So the interpretation and creativity is completely up to you! Let your creativity run wild, and we can't wait to see what you come up with!

The February contest will be open for entries beginning on Saturday, February 1, 2014 and runs until midnight Thursday, February 27, 2013.

REMEMBER...THIS IS NOT AN "OFFICIAL" MEET UP!
MEANING...The date this event is scheduled for is just a place holder for the deadline of the Monthly Photo Contest!

We are NOT meeting anywhere to shoot!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEWS FLASH!  Our sponsor the Digital Photo Academy will be providing this month's winner with a

PRIZE WILL BE FREE ATTENDANCE OF ANY DPA COMPOSITION IN THE FIELD CLASS, TO BE REDEEMED WHENEVER YOU LIKE!!  Here's a schedule of DPA's Classes.  (NOTE: Even if you don't win, DPA offers  members of the Front Range Photography Meetup a 50% discount on classes!)

The February Guest Judge is Digital Photo Academy Instructor Lincoln Phillips.

Lincoln is currently the Department Head of Photography at the Community College of Denver. Lincoln has also taught at the University of Colorado, the Metropolitan State College of Denver, and the University of Iowa. His fine art images have been exhibited in many group, solo and juried shows. Lincoln recently returned from a month-long tour of Syria and Turkey as part of a Fulbright group study program to observe religious pluralism in modern secular Muslim states.

Travel continues to be an important theme in his work but not in the traditional sense.  ‘I’m not just interested in the visual aspect of a site,’ he says.  ‘I also want to document my emotional and psychological state while traveling.  The work kind of bleeds over into travel photography but in a more personal vein.’  Lincoln has continued his travel and photography experience with trips to Europe, Britain, Peru, and most recently the Near East. When not abroad, he frequently photographs in national parks and the wilderness areas of the Southwest.

A COUPLE OF SPECIAL NOTES:

YOU HAVE TO HAVE TAKEN THE IMAGE YOU ARE ENTERING: We know this should be obvious, but we just want to clarify this. So no restored photos, Photoshop compilations or creations etc.

YOU CANNOT ENTER A PHOTO THAT HAS BEEN ENTERED IN A PREVIOUS MONTHLY CONTEST AND WON 1ST OR 2ND PLACE OR HONORABLE MENTION! Again, we know this should be obvious, but just in case you were thinking about doing this, we have been keeping records of the Monthly Contest Winners for quite a few years.

ONLY 1 ENTRY, PER MONTHLY CONTEST, PER GROUP MEMBER!! You can post multiple images to the Photo Album, but be sure to mark the additional images as EXHIBITION ONLY!

PLEASE NOTE: If you paid your $10.00 contest fee to enter last month's contest YOU DON'T have to pay again to enter the monthly contests for the rest of the year.

IF YOU HAVEN'T paid to enter the contest, please be sure to do so BEFORE you enter your photo.  (The payment link can be found on the left sidebar where it says "Contest Entry Fee. You don't need a Paypal account to pay, just a credit card.) If you don't pay, no worries, your image will just be flagged as exhibition only!

TO POST YOUR ENTRIES:

Click the "PHOTO" tab on the navigation bar at the top of the Meetup site.

In the "PHOTO" tab, there will be a PHOTO ALBUM titled "2014 February Photo Contest: "Shades of Blue"

Upload your entry there

Don't forget to give it a creative title, or I will give it a generic one!  LOL...much better if you name your image!

All submissions will be posted on this Meetup site.  If you don't want your image online, please don't post it!

Might consider deadlines/backup plans that might be flexible with the recent problems of the site being down during the last day for the contests. And it appears from their updates it is continuing even today.

Understood. This is the 1st time this has ever happen, so we will have to discuss what provisions to make in the future. Thanks for the feedback!

As always, great fun to decide on a photo to upload and to see everyone's interpretation of "Blue"

I was just able to add a picture to this set. I understand it is late and exhibition. But because I waited to the last night and the site went down I was not able to upload until just now.

It's probably shown but I haven't seen it. What is the recommended size (KB, MB, or dimensions)for a jpeg image submitted for a contest. Thanks.

Patrick we recommend 1024 pixels on the longest side and 72 dpi. Hope that helps!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
