Advanced Composition & Lightroom Creating Movement, Energy & Drama w/Dan Ballard

NOTE: With this workshop we welcome the Evergreen Photography Club to the Front Range Meetup.  Evergreen Photography Club would like to extend an invitation for you to join Dan Ballard for an evening workshop.

With Dan Ballard
In this five hour class Dan will teach you how to work with the elements to create images with energy and drama, and then to come home and finish your masterpiece in Lightroom.  He will focus on how to see more effectively and how to look for stunning compositions as well as how to use Lightroom (or Adobe Camera RAW) to get that deep, rich look that most photographers thrive for, but few know how to achieve.

Dan always gets rave reviews about his classes and presentations and we guarantee you will go away inspired, with new tools to edit your images. This class will help you to create powerful, jaw dropping photographs!

Learning how the elements of a scene will be represented in a photograph is one of the toughest things to accomplish.   Dan will show examples of images and paintings where design and composition create energy and movement, and talk about why they influence the eye and mind the way they do.

Dan will also talk about adding elements to your photographs that convey energy themselves.  Moving water, sand or snow, severe weather, subjects in motion, color contrast or exciting lighting.

By combining energetic subjects with great composition and design, you can make an extremely dramatic and powerful photograph.

Due to popular demand Dan Ballard is doing a 2-part workshop.  This is Part 1 (Fee $45)  Part 2 (Fee $55) will be very limited to a maximum of 10 so Dan can provide personal guidance while you work on your own images.  Prerequisite is Class 1! Sign up for Class 2 on the April 2 announcement. Follow this link.

One of least understood aspects of photography is how to correctly edit an image to make it shine. Dan will share all of his secrets for really making an image come to life.  Half of creating an exceptional dramatic image is in the editing, and Dan will show examples of using Lightroom to create the desired look.

By using strong black points, dodging and burning to lead the eye, digital graduated filters to make every part of the image perfect and many other ideas you will be able to transform your editing process.

This class will focus 100% on the artistic side of shooting and editing and will not cover camera settings, or things like importing and organizing in Lightroom.  Two hours composition, three hours Lightroom.

This class is intended for all levels of photographers from beginners to serious enthusiasts.  It is also suitable for those who prefer Adobe Camera Raw as most of the editing tools are the same.

"The class was great! I've spent more money on a Lightroom class and got half as much productive knowledge out of it. I walked away thinking I can now do something with Lightroom!”

"Superb!!! This was exactly what I was hoping it would be. As a long time NX2 user, Dan's demonstration made it clear to me that even as an old guy who is slow to learn that I can learn and use LR4 and enjoy it. Thanks Dan!!!!”

"Wow...What a fantastic class. Dan is very, very passionate and this definitely comes across. I learned a lot from him and can't wait to get started. Thanks Dan for all the information. Loved it!”

"That was amazing! Dan's insights into working with Lightroom 4 was very helpful. He also does a great job of teaching quite a lot in a short amount of time.

Dan is an excellent instructor and I am so glad that I signed up for this presentation! I really appreciated that the majority of the time was spent on image editing. It was so helpful to see Dan's RAW images right out of the camera, and then watch him edit them. Thanks SO much, Mike and Dan, for setting this up for us! I learned a LOT!”

"Dan did a fabulous job sharing his workflow with both landscape and portraits within Lightroom. Showing his before and after photos, then recreating the same effect within the class was a benefit to me. Then repeat those steps several times with various photos helped me to really learn his workflow thus allowing me to incorporate some of his steps into my own photography. Great presentation!!”

"Excellent. Dan Ballard is an accomplished instructor who knows his Lightroom and is able to share it effectively with his audience. The class exceeded my expectations and opened new possibilities for my photography.”

“Wonderful event, engaged audience, well-illustrated session highlighted by superb photography and a contagious speaker, who could ask for more?!"

Fantastic class! I've been going through old photos and re-edited some of my favorites. With some lightroom, magic they've really come alive!

Excellent and well organized presentation. Can't wait to see if the techniques discussed can help me goet more "drama" in my images.

I asked Dan about filming his workshop tonight. He said that it would be ok as long as it doesn’t interfere with the other students.

Would it be acceptable to film this? I have abhored handwriting, and I'm not sure if I'll have a laptop to take with me.

I don't know about the filming of this workshop, you would have to ask the photographer and presenter Dan Ballard. It's his call.

This sounds like an amazing opportunity! I wish it was over a weekend! That pesky job of mine (which happens to fund my photography habit), interferes for this event. I hope another event will be scheduled that jives with my crazy schedule!

I would love to attend this workshop, but until 10 in Evergreen on a work/school night makes it too difficult for me this time around. Enjoy!

Thank you very much, Kristal. And yes, it was at the Eye of the Camera. It was a pleasant surprise. Cheers
