Good Afternoon Everyone!
CONGRATULATIONS TO KRISTEN! Her Mother and child. Malawi, Africa is the May 2013 Monthly Contest Winner!
A Special thanks to this month's Guest Judge, Professional Photographer, Jeff Johnson! We appreciate you taking time to assist us with choosing this month''s winners! Jeff stated there are some very creative and stunning imagery entered this month. It was a toughy!
1ST PLACE - ENTRY #2: Kristen, Mother and child. Malawi, Africa
JUDGES COMMENTS: This image is very strong compositionally and emotionally. The colors are very rich and the exposure is right on the money. I very much enjoy the story and emotions of this Mother and child. They seem very close but are filled with anguish and sadness. It appears as though they don't know where their next meal may come from. The strong vertical lines of their bodies help tell this story and allowing them to be almost looking out of the frame to the left makes the tension more apparent. Very nice capture. Congratulations!
2ND PLACE - ENTRY #1: Kristal Kraft, I Love PT Cruisers
JUDGES COMMENTS: This is simply one of those "have to be in the right place" images. congrats for being aware enough to capture this and the creativity of the title pulls it all together. Having this amusing scene happen in front of your face and have the presence of mind to record it and get it sharp, proper exposure and great composition is hats off to your photographic prowess! Very nice image.
3RD PLACE - ENTRY #27: Eddie Rist, Remembering...
JUDGES COMMENTS: The emotions in this image are so strong and deep. The composition pulls you right into this man's feeling of loss and sadness. Using the grave markers as a framing technique and leading lines is powerful and done so well! Thank you for sharing this emotion that I think most Americans have experienced at sometime in their lives. Great reminder . . . so that we will remember!
HONORABLE MENTION 1 - Entry #10: Gwen Pina, The look of latex love
JUDGES COMMENTS: What a great satirical look at a couple's vacation, so to speak. I love the composition as it puts us right into her head and thoughts. The "colorful" swim cap almost allows us to see her crazy love for this man. Is he her life partner or a new found friend? ( or maybe she is just waiting for him to get out of her way!) Doesn't really matter! It's so full of wonderment and comical perspective that you really want to know what she does next! Great perspective and composition. Nice exposure and the story is amazing!
HONORABLE MENTION 2: Entry #12: Lisa, Ha Ha, I have the ball!
JUDGES COMMENTS: The title really sets the stage for this image. It is a great perspective of this little girl's "master plan"! She's got the ball and no one is going to get it. Funny thing is the no one else even notices that she is scheming and planning her escape. Great perspective and the composition is very strong with the foreground subject tac sharp and the background slightly soft as to allow us to see the people without them taking over the image and story. Great colors and light level. I love it!
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THIS MONTH'S WINNERS! Definitely a job well done! Thanks again to Jeff Johnson for assuming our Guest Judge duties this month! Jeff have quite a few Photo Walks in the coming months, I encourage everyone to check out some time with Jeff. His photos are amazing, and he is also a great teacher/mentor. He really gets you thinking about the creativity of your images!
Kristen now have 24 hours to give us the theme for the June Monthly Contest, and as soon as I have that information, I will announce it to the Meetup! Thanks again everyone for your participation!
