Having fun with as little money as possible, and
getting the most out of what we've got!
Frugal is good for your wallet and for the environment. Cheap is chic. Saving on one lets you splurge on another. Most importantly we are grateful for the abundance in our lives. We share our best tips through the Discussion Board and lots of notes on the calendar -- check in often!
Frugal ( adj )
1. economical in use; prudently saving or sparing; not wasteful
2. entailing little expense; requiring few resources; meager; thrifty
Specifically: We want people who celebrate bargains and share the wealth. Be savings-savvy, not stingy. Someone who gets a free meal and tips double. Pulls a broken closet door out of the dumpster and paints it for a garden mural. Waits in line for hours and makes friends, not a fuss. Ya dig?
Membership is free*
There are no member dues required, *but we do need your donations. Meetup.com charges us $144 per year, plus we have costs like name tags, signs, games, and prizes. If you learned something from our hours of research and posting, or you had a fun time while we saved you money -- drop a thank-you handful of change into the ol' tip jar. We suggest $1 per event you attend, or whatever you think we're worth. If you can't afford to donate right now, this group will fix that in no time!
We take your RSVP seriously
When we email you an invitation, you can ignore it or answer Yes or No, and we expect you to follow through. If you answer Yes and don't show, we might email you to ask what went wrong. We understand that emergencies or mistakes happen, but if you keep bailing on our events, we're going to remove you from this group. We would rather have 200 active reliable members than 2000 flakes.
Verify the event before going
When we add an event to the calendar, sometimes it's months in advance -- call the venue to verify our info is still correct, and if we make major changes to the event, we only email the people who RSVP'ed.
If you're frugally experienced, you know that some deals take a lot of patience. We've sat through bogus pitches, stood in lines for hours, set up fake email addresses ... all for the thrill of saving money. Please join us with a happy sense of adventure -- we're never sure how things will turn out, but half the fun is finding out together, and if you're a debbie downer all the time, we'll ask you to find a meetup that better suits your attitude instead.
Five stars for effort?
After each event you attend, you'll receive an automated email that asks for your feedback. You can simply rate the event 1-5 stars, or you can add some text to leave comments, thanks, or suggestions. We ask that you rate us based on things we can control. If it rained during the ball game, please don't take it out on us -- we put in as much hard work as ever! If your text for a free movie didn't come through and you couldn't attend the free screening -- we shared the press release and hoped for the best. We take our ratings and feedback personally, so if you have a complaint, please email the Organizer of that event directly versus bringing the rest of the group down. <3
We love sponsors!
Our sponsors help keep the group running - either by offering discounts, referral links, or donations to our hosting fees. Please click and explore them so the pennies keep rolling in! If you would like to advertise with us, click the link on the left.
