*2 more needed to make this happen.* Come curl with Funabalu on Sundays, starting November 3 for our 7 week program. Whether or not you are new to the game, this is an opportunity to get the most out of winter. Beginners and experienced curlers are invited to join us at the Ottawa Curling Club for a special 7 week league.
Where else do you get to go curling alongside Canada's Champions and World Bronze Medalists, the Rachel Homan Team (Rachel, Emma, Alison, and Lisa), as they ready themselves for a run to the Olympics. It's amazing to learn to curl and also watch them at the next rink over. Afterwards, we enjoy an apres curling social.
Why? Curling is a winter sports everyone should do. Invented by the Scots and perfected by Canadians, it is a sport that beckons all. Easy to learn, a lifetime to master, anyone can curl! It's just like bowling...only on ice with more clothing! Join Funabalu and others for our special two month curling learn and league. Apres curling is expected, so bring friends and more. The first week, we learn the basics then compete until early January. A real bonus is that we get to hang out at the rink with the likes of Canadian Womens Champions in the image below. If you need a good reference for correct form, you can always observe their technique.
8:30 am Arrive early an overview and introduction to the rules and strategies of the game. You will get your sliding shoe taped and grab a broom.
9 am Two hours of curling instruction and our first games. We will have three 40 minute round robin games.
Dress warmly with loose fitting sport clothing (we are inside, but standing on ice) and bring a pair of clean/dry running or hiking shoes!
Fee: $150 for 7 sessions of 2 hours each.
Curling is one of the hottest winter sports in Ottawa since the 1800s. In fact, it predates most sports here and is highly addictive. Since the Vancouver Olympics, our local curling rinks have been bustling with new curlers jumping on board. And, it`s very social, appealing to all ages and sexes. Unlike hockey, the body checking is off ice during apres curling at the bar. Open a new door to winter, when Funabalu-Singles goes curling at Ottawa`s oldest curling club, steeped in tradition and a community gathering place for well over a hundred years.
We need a minimum of 8 curlers, so please invite your friends to join us too. This is open to singles and non-singles (married or common law) too. In the event we don't have enough curlers, we will refund you your fee.
Refunds are not offered for this Meetup.
