Functional Programming enjoys a fair amount of buzz these days.

But the concepts make people's heads spin and FP advocates babble on in an alien language.

Worst of all, you wonder, "Does that mean I have to rewrite my entire codebase?"

What if the answer was 'No'? What if you could cherry-pick this nugget and that nugget?

Wouldn't it be neat keeping up with the times but still stay close to the languages and tools you already know?

With friendly folks you could share your doubts with? And ask the questions you were too afraid to ask?

"Low-lying fruits of FP: Harga Kaki Lima, Untung Bintang Lima" is a series of events showcasing the best of FP: The tips and tricks that'll give you the biggest bang for the smallest buck.

Let's kick-off the series with the topic of TESTING.

Wait, what?

Yeah, testing is kind of like the uncool, unloved sibling of the bigger brother called Development.

"Why bother testing?" is a great question with great answers. (http://programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/60097/is-software-testing-really-needed)

If you peek into the world's biggest software factories like Google and Microsoft, you'll see that they have as many workers in the Test department as they do in Dev.

(Pssst: if you want a job with them, it's way easier to get hired as a Software Engineer in Test (SET). Check out some of the (http://programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/6660/what-does-software-engineer-in-test-do) things that SETs do. (http://programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/191913/what-is-a-developer-in-test))

The meat of this meetup is a video of John Hughes presenting on "The Future of Testing" (http://eelcovisser.org/wiki/future-of-programming/program).

If that sounds boring, don't worry: the video's only 30mins long.

The real meat is the discussion afterwards: We'll unpack what he's saying and see how it's applicable.

So whether you're part of a startup or run your own digital agency, you'll get a chance to connect the dots from the future of testing to your projects today.

But first, as appetizer, Asep will tell us what it's like learning Erlang. (http://asep.co/2013/12/story-about-learn-functional-programming/)

Like Asep, if you also have something to Show & Tell, let us know and we'll schedule you in.

p.s. Limited seating. Don't wait or you'll lose your spot!
