First meetup, meet and greet, short preso on composable exceptions and what next

Hi all,

I've brought the start forward to 6:30 - we'll have pizza and drinks when we arrive.

Agenda:

1. Food!

2. Couple of the Movio guys will talk about composable exception handling with the new scala "Try"

3. Discussion on what people are looking for keen to do going forward. Will probably include a quick 1 min from each person on background and interest in FP.

Looking forward to meeting you all.

Kal

Hi Michael/Felix, Would you mind sharing the slides from the first meetup if that's okay with you guys (provided that you still have them)?

    Cheers, James

Principles of Reactive Programming is a free online class taught by Martin Odersky et al.

(Was posted on NZ Scala Google+)

(Is there another way of posting to the meetup members?)

I'd like to put my hand up to present Reactive Programming (a.k.a. FRP) using Sodium. It would be good if someone volunteers to do another presentation on the basics first. We covered map and flatMap (concatMap) but we didn't get as far as covering lift.

Good meetup. I'll make a spreadsheet of what people work with, their interests, and meetup format preferences at lunch time and post it today.

Hey, here's Katie's monads talk from Codemania earlier this year. I do encourage you all to watch it - it's 40 minutes well spent... http://youtu.be/MlZCiiKGbb0

Liked the style of this meetup. The interaction with the audience throughout the presentation and group session afterwards were good.

Well poop - I didn't realize it was this week, which conflicts with podcast recording. Will have to juggle a few things or cancel on of them :(

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
