To all 'Explorers' old and new, near or far.
This MeetUp group is for people who see the Future of Manufacturing as Dynamic, Personal, and Localised.
New technologies enable small enterprises, local communities and even individuals to become 'manufacturers' , challenging the conventional concept of mass production and large factory complexes and facilities.
Digital Factories and Desktop Manufacturing are creating products that can be customised to local needs, and will also contribute to sustainable use of resources, re-use and recycling.
As we transition to this new world a cultural change will have to take place as we not only learn to use the new technologies, but also meet the challenges that they create. We will need to learn new ways to design, new ways to share information, and how to create new business models that fit the new technologies.
The following report shows that the UK government has recognised some of the issues but the government only ever follows where 'we the people' lead.
The global interest shown in 3D Printing, as part of Additive Manufacturing, is an obvious underpinning for this report, and we ourselves host a regular 3D printing event, but there are many other technologies and materials to explore together.
Join the group if you want to join us on this journey of 'exploration', we are a large group with members spread quite widely geographically but we have a common interest so help us grow by suggesting events you could host locally and provided they conform to the concept outlined above we will try to support them.
