Project-Based Engineering! Ages 12+

** This class will be held twice a month at the Boy Scout Sea Base in Naples (near Belmont Shore). **

For beginning and established makers, tinkerers, and DIYers!

The format of this class is open lab.  If your child's schedule overlaps a bit, you can still join this class successfully.

Project-Based Engineering!

This is a project-based open lab designed to challenge and engage the natural curiosity and imagination of middle school students.

Ages 12+

Two Wednesdays a month, 1pm-3pm *** On some days we are able to extend the class to 5:00 PM at no additional cost. ***

$40/2 Wednesdays: 1/15, 1/29 (if student already has Arduino kit)

$120/2 Wednesdays for new students, includes SparkFun Inventors's Kit valued at $100.

First timers will be working on learning the Arduino basics with the kit.  Arduino is a popular open-source microcontroller that is capable of controlling just about any DIY hardware project.  It can be used to develop interactive objects, taking inputs from a variety of switches or sensors, and controlling a variety of lights, motors, and other physical outputs.

Continuing students: Individual projects.  Price is for instruction only.  A materials cost may be added based upon the project selected by the youth, but youth will be guided in ordering materials online if they wish to purchase themselves.

Sky Mountain vendor: George A. Castro, gee!

Golden Valley vendor: Great Educational Experiences

Excel College Prep vendor: Great Educational Experiences

Instructor: Ms. Patricia Tsoiasue is a system engineer and extremely involved in the creative community of Long Beach.  She is working to bring a maker space to Long Beach and we are thrilled she is doing classes for our students.  Her projects include sewing projects (softies and ugly soft creatures with eyes that glow), mechanical experiences, electronics with the Arduino - a robotics computing platform and LEGO bricks, a creative medium that she loves!

This is a drop-off class if parent and child are comfortable.  Parents are always welcome to stay and observe.

To sign up one child, RSVP as yourself; to sign up two children, RSVP +1, etc.

If you are not using charter schools funds, please feel free to pay online or bring payment to class.

Let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you!
