From Michelle B, a gee! member:

GEE is partnering with CARE Learning Academy of Santa Clarita and Music Together at the Beach to do something in memory of the 28 people who lost their lives in Newtown last week and will also help the town on their road to recovery.

Perhaps you have heard of Snowflakes for Sandy Hook. Let me tell you what this is about in case you do not know.

The school where this unspeakable crime took place is closed, furniture etc. already being moved out. The children of Newtown needed a school to return to after their holiday break. Apparently there was a vacant middle school about 20 miles away and the town of Monroe has told the community of Newtown that they are welcome to have the vacant school as their own.

Just returning to school is going to be very difficult for all of the children, parents, and other townspeople of Newtown. Now the children are going to a new school they are not familiar with, might not feel comfortable in for a while.

The Connecticut PTSA came up with the idea of making snowflakes to decorate every inch of this new school - some way to maybe light up the children's eyes as they come to their new school.

Care Learning Academy in Santa Clarita is making Snowflakes For Sandy Hook AND CARE has offered to pay the shipping bill for all of the snowflakes we make. Our collective goal is to collect at least 1000 snowflakes to send to the new school for Sandy Hook.

We all know that no two snowflakes are alike, as are no two children, so it does not matter what your snowflake looks like. It can be any color, decorated or plain, large or small, paper or fabric. If you can create it, it can be sent. There are lots of sites online with great ideas on how to make snowflakes, so let your creative juices flow!

All you have to do is make a snowflake. If you want to make 2 that is great. If you want to make 50 that is great. Every snowflake counts. Everyone can participate and know they have done something to help Newtown - we are not helpless after all.

We will collect the snowflakes and deliver them to Care Learning Academy where they will be mailed along with YOUR NAME.

This will be a beautiful gesture of love that will make a very big difference to a lot of people, especially the children of Newtown.

We'll provide the paper and craft supplies tomorrow at the Music Together location on Willow from 12:30-1:00. Please bring your own scissors and if you'd like to donate glitter glue, that would be great. If you'd rather make your snowflake at home, you are welcome to drop it off anytime between 12:30-2:00 and we will add it to our collection.

Thank you, in advance, for helping!
