SIGGRAPH and OpenCL

SIGGRAPH - Greg will present highlights from July's SIGGRAPH 2013 conference.

OPENCL - AJ will outline the OpenCL programming model and philosophy, along with the potential impact of OpenCL 2.0. He will also discuss his vision for the future of OpenCL, and outline his proposed amendments to the OpenCL specification.

OpenCL is a standard for heterogeneous programming, with implementations provided by nVIDIA, AMD, Intel, Apple, Altera, and many others. An OpenCL application can portably target multi-core CPUs, GPUs, and compute clusters. Behind the OpenCL API is a programming model and unspoken philosophy, which provide a framework for all OpenCL applications.

    Excellent presentations. Thank-you both.

Came across this while I was digging into HSA.

Hi, I looked at these before, I think that the slides don't really motivate OpenCL properly. They get bogged down in details that you can figure out yourself, when what you really need is an understanding of "the big picture" and what is really relevant toward writing good software.

Thank you Greg for your great presentation. I found it very informative.
Thank you AJ for your balanced introduction to OpenCL and some problems with it.

Thank you Greg for your pleasant and light-hearted introduction to SIGGRAPH and for the short clips, which I really enjoyed. Nice to know that the world of graphics is racing ahead without a hitch. Once again time to catch up.
Thank you AJ for the overview of OpenCL and for exposing the confusion within the API that we have come to know as a cure-all solution to parallel programming. I'm glad you brought us up-to-date on your attempt to introduce compatibility into the standard. Good luck in your effort.

I'd really like to attend this thing. I want to learn GPU programming badly.

Contact me offline, I can help you get started. Also look at the slides from the previous talks at this group, the previous speakers introduce the subject nicely.

I'm leaving right now for Toronto. Where can I find the slides?

I don't want to miss this, but can't attend, ... will it be recorded?

Hi Hasan, I will be posting the slides of my talk and will likely give it again later this month at another event. I also intend to put up a YouTube screencast of my talk, as soon as I can borrow/buy a suitable microphone.

AJ - Seneca is looking for speakers on Open Technologies for its October 25 symposium. A talk on OpenCL would make a great addition to our lineup. No $$$ but you get a free dinner with the other speakers and some neat swag. If you're interested, talk to me or Chris.

Hi John, Chris mentioned this to me. I would be interested in giving a talk if you have an idea for an appropriate topic. I don't know the audience well enough to know what type of talk I sould give.

I think it would be great if you would just repeat your OpenCL talk scheduled for our Oct 3 meetup.
