National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade and Sakura Matsuri Street Festival

Two separate events are going on for the National Cherry Blossom Festival on April 13, 2013 - a parade going along Constitution Avenue from 7th to 17th Streets, and a fantastic street festival, called the Sakura Matsuri, at 12th and Pennsylvania. The Festival will feature Japanese food, performances, art and culture exhibitions, and a bustling marketplace.

The Parade starts at 10:00 AM, which is what the initial meeting time is for. We will move to the Sakura Matsuri once everyone is done with it. Since I'm assuming this will be after the parade, we will set the Matsuri meetup time at 12:15 at 12th and Pennsylvania.

Please Note: While the Parade is free, there is a $5.00 fee to get into the Sakura Matsuri. You may prepay online at http://www.sakuramatsuri.org/ or bring $5.00 cash along with you to buy a ticket. I recommend the former, because there's less of a line.

Just now got on the metro in falls church. I will be headed to 13th & penn to film cultural stuff for school. I have both iPhone and android tablet, so that should give me no problems with recording.

Back to exploring. If you'd like to join up, drop a message -I'll be checking periodically to see if anyone is trying to find our merry band.

Looks like I am not going to make the early meet up time. So will plan on the 12:15

I'm not sure if I'm going to make this event. I'm still planning to, but I only just got home a little bit ago and I'm exhausted. Assuming I do come it will surely be at the 12:15 meetup time.

I think I'll be there on the later side of things rather than 9:45am. Can someone who will be there earlier post a phone number or text me your number so I can find the group (if arriving before the 12:15pm re-grouping time)? My number is[masked]

There was some talk last week about some people joining the group later in the day around noon or something. Did anything ever come of that? 9:45 is seriously freaking early lol

Further down in the description it says: "Since I'm assuming this will be after the parade, we will set the Matsuri meetup time at 12:15 at 12th and Pennsylvania."

I'm going to go just to the Matsuri part. I'll probably arrive at the festival before the parade is over and be scoping things out to video for my anthropology class. Just in case I run out of disk space or charge on my iPhone, is there anyone who might be willing to lend me their phone so I can record video, and then get me a copy of it a few days later? My final result has to be 5-10 minutes, and I know my phone can do over 15 minutes long. But I will have to remember to delete off all the music.

IMPORTANT: The Sakura Matsuri is $5.00. You can buy tickets at http://www.sakuramatsuri.org/ or pay IN CASH ONLY on the day of the Festival. There will be a line, so I recommend prepaying. ALSO IMPORTANT: I've had a couple of people let me know they're planning on coming to the Festival but not the Parade. If you aren't going to come to the Parade, please RSVP Yes, but reply to this letting me know so I won't look for you.

Oops! Sorry. Do you want me to delete my comment in case she becomes inquisitive?

Nah - need it somewhere so everyone will know to be ready to sing at her.

So we will meet at 9:45 right outside the metro? There will be a lot of people and I don't have a smart phone so hopefully no problem finding the group. I will be wearing a royal blue yukata so easy to spot.

That's what I'd been planning, yes. I'll do my best to wear my 2012 Cherry Blossom Festival shirt for this.

This is the only part of the whole month-long festival that seems authentic to me. I really wanted to go since this is my last year in DC.

I am a "yes" for attending. I'm in the parade, so I'll try to find the group afterwards!
