Lightning Talk: Programming for Science: A Case Study by Molly Rossow

Doing science means taking many small steps that slowly add up to a better understanding of the world. By zeroing in on one small biological process we can design experiments and test hypotheses in a manageable way. Piece by piece we gain an understanding of how living systems work and eventually this knowledge contributes medical advances.

I'll tell you about a project I worked on trying to understand how a particular protein, called Vimentin, is assembled in cells and how biology, microscopy and programming came together to make a new discovery possible.
