February GeoDC: GIS on the Web

Details

This month we'll look at GIS, new tools making GIS easier, and neat applications of GIS in practice. Join us at 7pm on Wednesday, February 4, at Stetson's (http://stetsons-dc.com/index.php) at 1610 U street NW. We'll kick off introductions and lightning talks at 7:30pm, and plan on staying after for time to talk with our speakers and everyone else.

We're still building our speaker lineup, but here's an advance look at our lightning talks:

• Turf (https://www.mapbox.com/blog/turf-gis-for-web-maps/) is a simple, fast, and versatile new tool for doing GIS. Tom MacWright (https://twitter.com/tmcw) will show examples of Turf in use and share the historical and technical context of modern GIS.

• Visualizing real time geodata on the web allows for instant feedback, rapid analysis and decision making, and an all-round cool experience. Courtney Claessens (https://twitter.com/sidewalkballet) will demonstrate how to use stream services in ArcGISOnline so anyone can visualize and analyze real time data streams, regardless of developer experience.

Want to give a 5 minute talk on an interesting us of GIS? Message us with your idea.

Stetsons is a 21 and over venue. If you're not yet 21 but want to attend, message us via meetup and we'll do our best to get you in.

GeoDC meets on the first Wednesday of the month to learn, network, and talk about the work people are doing with maps, GIS, geodata, and more. Join this meetup group, follow @Geo_DC (https://twitter.com/geo_dc)on Twitter, and join our Google group (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/geonerds-dc) for updates.

Do you have something you'd like to share with the group? Let us know!
