It probably has something to do with the fact that I grew up moving around and making mental notes about physical differences from place to place. I was always the one with a map in my hand as the family traveled and I have an excellent sense of direction (built-in GPS?). In high school, I was part of a group that built a rudimentary map display system for the Apple IIe ('86-'87). While in college, I studied Geography and Computer Science and most enjoyed courses in Oceanography, Geomorphology, Meteorology and, of course, Physical Geography. I've been working in the GIS industry since 1995 and develop geospatial software applications for the web, desktop and mobile platforms.
