We are preparing the launch of a new German track at the International School of Arizona this August!

What do we have in mind?

Like the other already thriving tracks at the International School (French & Spanish), the German track will allow our kids to learn German from native German teachers as well as from each other. Interaction with kids in the other language tracks will be encouraged and will occur naturally in this wonderfully international environment. Like the other tracks, the German track at the school will have only the highest standards: from outstanding teachers to healthy and tasty food, a carefully designed curriculum, fun and educational activities, field trips as well as other learning opportunities.

What about English?

While this is an immersion program, there will of course be an appropriate amount of English instruction so our children are ahead of the curve in every way.

Who are we?

A group of parents (mostly professionals) as well as teachers and other supporters of this German track. The German Consul, Dr. Bernard Otremba Blanc has been instrumental from the get-go, as has been Michelle Borie, Head of the International School of Arizona. German government agencies have signaled their support as well at this point!

What age groups will be taught?

We will begin with preschool (starting at age 2), kindergarten and elementary school. Over time we will develop the capability for middle school, then for high school education within the German track. This has already been done successfully for both French and Spanish. Let's open up a world of opportunities for our children!

Why do we need a German Track?

German is the most common heritage in the US. Understanding ones heritage may be a good reason and a beginning. More importantly, economic predictions show that the relationship between the U.S. and Europe with their shared values will grow ever closer as these nations take on the rise of competitors from countries such as China. Mutual investments between German and the U.S. companies are steadily rising. There will be many opportunities to work with or in Germany and these can best be enhanced by truly understanding the culture, the work ethic, and the language of Germany. Also: it's fun to speak German while traveling Europe, where there are 95 million native German speakers (versus 64 million English speakers). German is experiencing a true renaissance in Europe with over 35% of Europeans stating they speak German. Speaking German matters. It opens up a world of opportunities. And any child that has learned a second language in depth will have an easier time learning even more languages down the line should they wish to do so.
