If you've always wanted to get a book published and didn't know how, this meetup group will teach you the steps.
· Learn how to pitch your book at a conference
· Demystify the query letter and get steps on how to write one
· Develop your author platform before you are even published
We'll explore traditional publishing and self-publishing, and everything in between, and break down the right publishing steps for you into manageable chunks so you can integrate writing and publishing into your daily life.
This Meet-up is organized by Beth Barany, author and speaker, (www.bethbarany.com) and hosted by the Oakland Public Library, Piedmont Ave. branch. Support your local libraries!
Beth has written four fiction manuscripts (mostly science fiction and fantasy), and queried over three dozen agents and editors. Her query letters have resulted in requests for the full manuscript, personalized rejections, and the normal sort of writer's angst.
Beth has also written several nonfiction book proposals for clients that have gererated interest in the publishing industry.
"What's your story about?"
When an agent or editor asks, you need to be able to answer them in a concise and compelling way.
The pitch is what they want.
So learn how to give them (the all important gatekeepers) what they want.
How? Practice makes perfect!
Bring your 25-30 word pitch and we'll practice them together.
