The 3 Steps to Author Branding

Often authors think that branding is something your publisher does once you're published (or something to do with cows), but actually if you take three steps you can take to make yourself more attractive to a publisher now.

  • Know your personal brand
  • Know your author brand
  • Uncover your shadow brand

Join us for a presentation on how you can make yourself more attractive to a publisher, and Q&A on what it takes to get clear about your brand.

You can prepare by reading this post and answering its questions:

The Secrets of Author Branding: http://www.writersfun...

Guest Author! Local published author, Alice Gaines will share with us her unique journey to publication.

Alice Gaines started writing in 1980 at the tender age of 41. She's published 7 novels and over 25 shorter works for small presses such as Red Sage, Ellora's Cave/Cerridwen, Changeling Press, Draumr Publishing, and ImaJinn and larger publishers, such as Harelquin and Dorchester/Leisue. All but one of her stories have been in the romance genre. In June 2010, she'll be part of the launch of Carina Press with a light-hearted historical romance, Miss Foster's Folly. More information about Alice and her books is here: http://www.authoralic...

At the second half of the evening, we'll go over the the basics of the dreaded Query Letter.

  • What are the key elements?
  • Why is the query letter important?
  • How do you write a powerful one?!

I really liked the mix of authors (self-help, romance, poet, thriller, etc). I'd like the group to include more intel about short story and creative nonfiction writing. Beth is enthusiastic, and she is a Meetup organizer who presents a worked-up agenda full of tips -- and having a guest (Alice Gaines) to spotlight her experience is very valuable. I have one criticism -- Beth, I realize you are showcasing your own books and services, but please ease up a bit.

I loved that Beth gave us branding exercises to complete before attending the meetup. She really made me look at branding in a deeper way than I ever have before. A+++
