  • Hey all

2 days in Yosemite camping at camp 4, with a snake dyke climax!! Who wants to hit up half dome?

Ok, here's the deal. I wanna climb snake dyke 5.7R to the top of half dome, and you wanna join me.we'll do it on Sunday (cause it takes a while) and we'll climb a couple of routes Saturday too.

The best candidate will be a great hiker, a confident Trad Yosemite 5.8 follower, 5.7 leader or better. With a headlamp, rack,60m rope, tent, all the stuff you need to do 4 hour multi pitch and 12 hour hike. Full of energy and a great attitude, loves the sight of granite at sunrise and sunset. Keeps a headlamp in their pocket, not just in case we get stuck, but just in case we find something AWESOME and can't help but night climb!! I want someone excited about this sport, and happy to do it. Cause, I am and if you aren't I'll just annoy you.

I'm super serious here. I'm figuring on hitting the climb at sunrise, or right after. That means we will be moving by 4am or so. I won't be offended if nobody accepts. Don't get me wrong. I'm not a butt head. But, if you have trouble getting up and are moving slow but in a good mood. It will be cool (I won't cry if we are moving a little later).

Here's the skinny. I don't have a reservation, so I'm planning on camping at the walk in camp, camp 4. You should be there by at least 6:30 am or so am Saturday morning they open at 8:30, and there will be a line. Drop out camping gear and head out for some rock. I climb in the 5.8 range and can do some 5.9... So we'll need to figure out what we are going to climb. I'm open and there's lots to choose from.
Climb all day. Crash out and set out for the epic of snake dyke Sunday early Am.

Topo says 6-12 hours... But I wouldn't mind starting at night. We'll need to talk about it. Starting the climb at first light will be ok too. I'm serious about the early am stuff.. But don't worry I'll make the coffee!
Probably head home at that point. But I'm game. I won't have to be at work until 5am Monday morning so I'm open.

Please read up on snake dyke, and Yosemite camping at camp 4 bring warm stuff and some food and water stuff. I'm going to open this up to me plus 3. If there's a huge draw maybe more, but the climb is fairly popular.
I'm driving my truck up out of Oakland, so there's room for one to carpool with me, two if you are small and don't mind being a bit cramped.

That's the game plan, who's in?

Check out the Mountain Project Description and my comment there to start: http://mountainprojec.... If you'd like more info, please email me (MeetUp limits the length of comments so I can't write all that I'd like to here)!

P.S.: to answer your first question directly: the approach took us 4 hours as a pretty quick-moving twosome. It's definitely arduous if not an experienced alpine hiker, so plan for a couple extra hours if you want to take a lot of breaks or have slower people in the party. Start as early as you possibly can, because doing the last and most strenuous part of the approach is no fun in the heat of the day. Nobody there for us, but we did it on an April Wednesday before the Half Dome cable posts were up. I assume you'll see a lot more traffic.
