I just moved to Echo Park from Brooklyn where I ran a Scrabble/Social group that was so fun I wanted to bring the idea here.
**UPDATE**
This group along with the other message board site is already a couple hundred strong and growing. The meetings are more intimate and casual so its a great place to hang out and meet like minded young, artistic and professional people in your hood. To keep it intimate and awesome there are some rules to follow in order to keep from being politely removed from the group:
------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------
1. You've got to attend. People in CA are very open hearted and kind but scheduling/doing things is not a forte on this coast. So instead of joining with the best of intentions its better to let the few people interested in joining, interacting and making new friends join this group while those who want to feel good from the satisfaction of only joining a group can go join yoga-shamanic-healing-tree-planting-recycling-Oprah-Book-Clu
b group. There's two to choose from.
1 a. (Quality over quantity people, this isn't myspace/facebook!)
2. You don't want to play scrabble? Cool: we're not that serious. In fact, I own the Simpson's Edition as well as the classic. More often than not, we break out the Monsters Inc. version of The Game of Life.
3. Follow the terms and conditions of this website.
------------------------------------------------------------

You might wonder what we all do here so I'll try to fill in the details.
First, this is not a group solely about alcohol.
Sure we might drink but we get together to play scrabble and drink or to make crafts and drink or to have a potluck.
There will probably be alcohol at the potluck.
Anyway, if you're new to the area like me or if you're an old fogey from the hood and you want to meet new, cool like minded people then come one come all!
Oh, and bring booze.
Gimme an email with a brief description about you and I'll be more than happy to send you the calendar and details...
