GetExploring! at Carolina Beach State Park

Details
Come hike the flat coastal trails of Carolina Beach State Park. This park is great to hit early in the season, before the park gets buggy!
We will be hiking several of the trails in the park, totaling just under 5 miles of trail. We will start at the Visitor center. What we're doing this week is called a lollipop hike - out a spur, around a loop, and back to the cars on the same spur. Our hike will begin by taking the Campground Trail to the Sugarloaf Trail. We'll take a short detour along the Flytrap Trail to see the plants this park is known for - venus flytraps! After completing the Flytrap Trail, we'll pick back up on the Sugarloaf Trail past the marina and along the beach. Here we'll pick up the Swamp Trail for a short distance, until the Sugarloaf Trail meets back on the right. The Sugarloaf Trail continues through past a dune and a couple of ponds, until meeting the Campground Trail again. We'll take the Campground Trail back to the cars to finish the hike.
Carolina Beach State Park has an incredibly unique ecosystem that supports liveoak, flatleaf pine, pocosin, turkey oak, cypress, gum, and venus flytraps! We'll have the opportunity to watch water birds on the Cape Fear River during part of the hike as well.
Weather is difficult to predict in early March. If its going to be sunny, throw some sunscreen in your bag. If its been warm for a few days leading up to the hike, it wouldn't hurt to grab a bottle of bugspray.
We look forward to seeing you all out there!
