GetHiking! Stone Mountain (Waterfall Views) April 16

Please join us for an "After Tax Day" Hike at Stone Mountain!

When you get to the park, continue past the Visitor Center on the main road. You'll go approximately 1.5 miles before reaching the Lower Trailhead parking area, on your left....if you go all the way to the backpacking parking lot, you've gone too far! (Look/ask for Lisa when you arrive.)

We'll be hiking 9 strenuous miles at Stone Mountain State Park. Expect to complete in 5-6 hours, depending on skill level of attendees. This includes time to view/photograph historical buildings/sites & waterfalls, & stops to rest/eat.

From the Lower Trailhead parking area, we'll hike the Stone Mountain Loop Trail (4.5 miles), hiking it counterclockwise.

Our first diversion will come at the Cedar Rock Trail (1.0 mile), then the Blackjack Ridge Trail (1.5 miles). We'll rejoin the Stone Mountain Loop Trail briefly before another diversion (2.0 miles out-and-back) to Middle and Lower Falls.

Then it's back to the Stone Mountain Loop Trail, and the climb up along Stone Mountain Falls before topping out on Stone Mountain's bald forehead.

Difficulty-wise, the Stone Mountain Loop Trail has one significant climb, up the stairway along the falls.

The Cedar Rock, Blackjack Ridge and Middle and Lower Falls trails all require some climbing and descending.

Bring any necessary gear required for a 9 mile strenuous hike, along with sufficient snacks/water.

Carpools may be arranged in our Comments Section-$7-$10 contribution for your carpool driver (approximately $4-$5 each way.) Comment that you will meet @ Target-9801 Sam Furr Rd Huntersville @ 8:20am, or specify a location/time which is preferable to you.
