The leaves should be at full peak colors and this should be a special hike on the private property of The Montreat Conference Center. Views along the Seven Sisters ridge will encompass 7 peaks and beautiful views of Black Mountain & Old fort to the east and Burnett Reservoir & Craggy Gardens to the west.
We will be going up Greybeard Trail (Moderate) to Greybeard Falls and Walkers Knob Shelter. 1/2 mile later we intersect with West Ridge Trail (Strenuous) and on to Big Piney Ridge Trail (Strenuous) for our descent back to the parking area.
The total hike is 7.2 miles, but there is considerable ascent to the ridge and likewise a considerable descent coming down. There are also a few tricky spots where you have to do some rock scrambling- nothing dangerous. Remember to bring adequate water and snacks.
We should meet at Roses in Belmont at 6:50 am and plan to depart no later than 7:00am from Roses. It will take 2 hours to reach Montreat and parking is limited. If you can drive, please post in the comments section below. Please plan to give your driver at least $7.00for the round trip.
We can stop in Black Mountain for a late (1:00pm) lunch or return directly to Belmont.
