GetHiking! on the MST: Breakfast and a Hike on the Blue Ridge Parkway
Details
Let's start the day with breakfast at the newly remodeled and re-opened Park Vista Inn at mile marker 268 on the BRP. From there, we'll hike the Mountains-to-Sea Trail south, paralleling the BRP to Jeffress Park and back, for a total of about 9 miles. This is a beautiful hike along the eastern ridge of the Blue Ridge, with occasional glimpses down into the Yadkin Valley that really give you a feel for the amazing ascent of the mountains from the valley floor. We should see jack-in-the-pulpits, the last remaining blooms on flame azaleas, and mountain laurel just bursting out. The forest changes back and forth from hardwoods to pines, with an occasional meadow to soak up some sun. This is rolling hike, without any prolonged ascents or descents.
