VERY IMPORTANT UPDATED INFORMATION FROM THE LAND TRUST FOR CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA — PLEASE READ!!

A reminder that we are piggybacking on this event being held by The Land Trust for Central North Carolina. To participate, you must register with them (see details below). The following should be everything you need to know to participate — again, after you register with the Land Trust.

The Land Trust for Central North Carolina is looking forward to the 3rd annual Uwharrie Trail Thru-hike scheduled for May 28-31. We have organized two shuttle options that will support hikers who wish to complete the full four-day thru-hike (Option A) or a day hike on Saturday (Option B). No other shuttle options will be provided by the LandTrust.

Option A (Thru-hike, 4 day - 3 night): Meeting locations - Asheboro Airport and Tot Hill Farm Golf Club. We will run the first shuttle beginning at 7:30 am starting first at the airport. We have 7 parking spots reserved at the airport and 15 in the far end of the golf club lot. The airport and golf club are about 10 min from one another so if the airport parking spaces are taken, you can go to the golf club. The van and shuttles will go to both locations for pick up. The second shuttle from these locations will run at 9:00 am. Hikers will be driven to the southern Wood Run Trailhead Hwy 24/27.

Option B (Day hike, Saturday): Meeting location: McArthur Property/Future Walker's Creek Trailhead - address 6871 High Pine Church Rd, Asheboro, NC 27205. Enter gravel drive and park in the field on the right. The van and shuttles will take hikers from the McArthur parking area to the Jumpin' Off Rock Trailhead. Shuttles will run at 7:30 and 8:30 am.

On Saturday night at the McArthur property, we will be hosting a BBQ dinner/cookout for all those that want to participate. Those who are thru-hiking will be camping at this location and will complete their hike the next day. Those who are day hiking are welcome to stay for the cookout and may camp that night if they'd like. We will not be providing any camping gear but will have a campfire. We would greatly appreciate a small donation to help cover meal costs and shuttles. We suggest a $30 donation for those who are thru-hiking and a $10 donation for those day hiking on Saturday - especially if you wish to partake in the meal and shuttle services.

MOST IMPORTANT: you MUST email us with details about your plans for participating (Option A or Options B). We need to know if you are thru-hiking or day hiking and want to use the above described shuttle services. It would be nice to hear from you one way or another. We have approximately 30 other participants (outside of the meetup groups) that are hiking and we need to make appropriate plans.

Please email Alicia Vasto - AmeriCorps member for the LandTrust- at alicia@landtrustcnc.org RIGHT AWAY. Let her know your plans. We have plenty of extra information - maps, directions, details - to share but we can't do that until you register with us.

We will also be hosting a conference call next Monday night to discuss final details and to answer questions. But you have to register with us first.

Soon we will list details on our website www.landtrustcnc.org. If you have questions you can also call our office 704-647-0302. Thank you! It's a great hike and will be a super experience.

If you think that just because our last two hikes were in the Uwharrie Mountains we're obsessed with this relict mountain chain, well, you may be right. We are taking a big of break from the area; this hike isn't until the end of May. But we thought you'd want to know about it early so you could plan ahead.

The Land Trust for Central North Carolina (http://landtrustcnc.org/) is holding its third annual Uwharrie Trail Thru Hike, a 40-mile, four-day trek on the recreation trail that runs through the heart of the Uwharries. You can either backpack the trip, or day hike it: for the latter, the trip divides into 10-mile segments that are bookended by roads. NOTE: No shuttle will be provided; you'll need to buddy up and handle that on your own (which we will help accommodate on this site as the date nears).

Details are developing for this hike. We'll include more information as we get it. Meanwhile, feel free to sign up and indicate whether you would be thru-hiking or day hiking. Once the day hike sections become available, you can sign up individually for them.
