Intro to JavaScript and jQuery

JavaScript is a language that all good web developers must know. Around since the early 90s, it's still the primary way to do client side web development. We will be covering everything from basic JavaScript, the jQuery library, and dynamic HTML to JSON and APIs. Students will exit this class having a good grasp of basic programming principles and the knowledge of how to manipulate HTML elements.

We suggest having a working knowledge of HTML as a prerequisite for this course. (Don't know HTML? Sign up for our January intro!)

This 2-class JavaScript course runs on the following schedule:

Class 1: Intro to JavaScript and jQuery
Saturday, August 31st from 12:00-4:00pm

Class 2: Chaining, element manipulation, JSON and AJAX with jQuery
Sunday, September 1st from 12:00-4:00pm

About the instructor:
My name is Kassandra Perch, and I am a web developer in the Austin, Texas area. My background is as a PHP developer in college, and now I'm moving forward with my career as a web developer and with my education. My eventual goal is to be a professor of computer science. I still volunteer-teach at St. Edward's for the Loosely Organized Computer Organization (LOCO), which I co-founded as a student. When I'm not coding, I"m making jewelry, knitting, crocheting, or sewing things for my young relatives and friends. I also do lots of cartooning in my spare time, and love to draw. I have been an Austin native for over 5 years, and currently reside in the Tech Ridge area with my boyfriend Brad (also a developer, and a great baker), a roomate, and my two cats, Jack and Ace.

Please note our refund policy: Your payment of $80 guarantees your seat in the course. If something changes after registration and you cannot attend the course, your seat is yours to sell or give to someone else - just please let us know who! As a rule we don't offer refunds, but please let us know if you have extenuating circumstances.

Hi all. I am number 5 on the waiting list but would absolutely love to get into this class. Is there a reason the numbers are so small? And do you think it'll be taught again this fall?

Hi Dalit, The number of attendees for this course is constrained by how large our classroom is. If in high demand, we will definitely consider having another one before the end of the year. Thank you for your interest :) We hope to see you soon!

Thanks to all who attended! Kassandra, that was an awesome dive into js. It was great to TA. All, feel free to reach out to me with questions or if you need a familiar friend to get you started at a dev meetup.

I think there is at least two people that won't be able to make it this wkd. Yes, yes... that's it. That thing that you really wanted to go to has finally come to Austin and won't be back for another 50yrs. And coincidentally that person/hero you looked up to will be there. I remember someone talking about it very enthusiastically. Maybe it's you? I'd hate for you to miss this opportunity. But I'm sure if you *must* take advantage of that thing that you really waited your whole life to be madepossible, your spot at this class would not be wasted. *note: this has to work on at least 2 people as I am second on the wait list* Ahem... carry on now..

Thanks everyone for being so understanding. As Kassandra stated, it's not just the size of the venue. We care about the level of attention each student is able to get from an instructor. Our classes are highly hands-on. This is why *all* of our classes tend to be small groups. Given the high demand for this class, we'll certainly try to include it in the fall, schedule and availability permitting :)

    Bumblebee tuna!
I am kinda back and forth on whether I'd be able to take this class. I can't say for certain I'll be in the area the weekend this is offered and I probably won't know until maybe that week. Would it be best to wait and possibly not get a seat or sign up and if things don't work out see if anyone would want my seat? I'd ask my magic 8-ball, but I think there was a resurgence of popularity in it's fortune telling ability in the 90's and a some nut in a time traveling hooptie snuck into my room and stole it. Whatever the case, feedback on this issue would be greatly appreciated. THNX

I would recommend signing up for the waitlist. If a space becomes available you'll be notified right away and be able to get a ticket.
