Ready to start programming? Want to learn the basics of a language that you can eventually use to build web apps? Then you're ready to learn Ruby. This is a intro-level course. No experience in programming is necessary!

Ruby is an open source language that powers applications and products like Hulu, LivingSocial, Groupon, and Github. There is a thriving, friendly community of users, and the job market for developers is strong.

On Saturday, July 18th from 9:30am-5:30pm, you'll get a thorough introduction to programming fundamentals with Ruby. We'll use the Interactive Ruby shell; write command line programs that use loops, conditionals, methods, and classes; and learn the basics of object oriented programming. We'll mix lecture and practice, and help guide you through the coursework.

For this intro class, we'll use an online development environment that has all of the tools we'll need. Therefore, there's no need to install software ahead of time.

If you do not have your own laptop, we can arrange for you to borrow one for the class session.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Your laptop and charger. If you don't have a laptop, please contact Rachel Warbelow (rachel@girldevelopit.com) or Cara Jo Miller (carajo@girldevelopit.com) in advance and we'll arrange for you to borrow one for the class session.
• Wifi & power strips will be provided
