PHP for Beginners (backend-track)

PHP was one of the first and still the most popular language on the web that allows people to build dynamic websites without having to compile code. As a server side language, PHP can retrieve data from any database, manipulate it and display it on the web for users to interact with. PHP is used by millions of websites including Facebook, Etsy and the most popular CMS applications Wordpress and Drupal

This course is an introduction to PHP and how it interacts with web servers. For this course, students will become introduced to PHP, server-side concepts, and MySQL. This is a 2 week course. The fee of $80 covers both 2 weeks.

    Hey ya!!
I'm really really sorry that I missed the second half, I had an emergency at work :(

Like Laura put in her message: I hope you guys run this again! Even with the last class going an hour over what you intended it never dragged on and was so fun and informative. I wish that you hold more so that you can get more in depth with stuff; you had mentioned it was originally supposed to be a four week course.

Will you be sending out the source files from this class as well?

    April 12

    • Lena L.

    Elena and Grant,
I apologize for the late notice but I am not going to be attending today, Saturday's, class. I'm heading out of town and want to get an early start. I hope you run this again as I think I have some use for it in my job. Please send me any notes from the class and I will look at them on my own with the information you have already provided. Thank you for all you do!

Not a problem at all, I will be sending out an update with completed example files and instructions for building our blog. I hope to do more to refine the material in an effort to make things more concise moving forward. Also, if you ever have questions regarding any project you end up pursuing please feel free to get in touch!

What version of WAMP would we want to download? Also it says: WARNING : You must install Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package x86 or x64. Any recommendations?

    • Grant T.

err.. sorry hit enter too soon... you just need to change the user access controls on your windows machine http://windows.micros... that is how to do so. I am not sure what version of windows you are running so those instructions may be slightly incorrect. As for the service pack it's asking you to install, http://www.microsoft.... there is another link. Again, I'd check your version of windows and just google if I perhaps gave you the information for a version that you do not have.

Dana, if you are unable to fix this error by Saturday, feel free to stop by earlier before the class (11:30 or so) and Grant or myself will help you to set up :)

Yes Absolutely! This class is geared toward people who have never done any programming before. Any familiarity with HTML / CSS / JS may help or other programming languages but is absolutely not necessary.

Is this appropriate for someone who has never ever done anything like this before? I'm interested but truly do not know the first thing about it.
