Code & Coffee

We're all learning to code, whether you've just decided to get started or you've been at it for years. Come hang out for a couple of hours on the last Tuesday of each month with some friendly fellow coders.

All languages and skill levels welcome. Bring a project you're working on or jump in on some pair exercises. Will you learn something new this week or be the one teaching? Probably both! Bring your own laptop and find out.

Thanks to our host, Table XI, a web and mobile app dev consultancy in the West Loop. They're sharing their space and their beverages with us. There's ample parking, several nearby Divvy stations, easy walk to Union Station, Ogilvy and the El.

Here's another one. Can we go on till maybe 9 or 10 pm? 2 hours seems such a short time to get some really good work done. How about extending the hours a bit for those of us who like to really do serious work at these events?

    Hi,

My name is Chris; I just joined your group, as an aspiring Data Scientist. I currently code / learn Python, R and SQL. Your group was one of the groups suggested to me immediately after I joined Meetup, as I am fairly amateur and am looking for the kind of meetup that is skill building and problem practicing (as opposed to the lecture kind of "big idea" meetups).

As you can tell from my profile picture, I am a male. If anyone is uncomfortable with this, please let me know. , and I will not force myself into your club. But also please understand that my focus in showing up on Tuesday is to improve my code, not to surround myself with women. Just wanted to be open about this /to see if anyone is uncomfortable with me being a guy.

Total shameless plug: I'm starting an after school programming club for girls at my school and have a DonorsChoose project going. Thanks to funding from Google, a $25 donation can buy a Chromebook for one of my students in the club. Our first meeting is Monday and I'm excited! I'll let everyone know how it is going at Code&Coffee. :)
