Intro to SEO (Beginner Level)

Details

This workshop will meet twice: Monday, July 27th and Wednesday, July 29th, both from 7-9pm.

Curious about those pesky Googlebots? Wondering why your website isn’t ranking in the SERPs? Not sure what a SERP is? We’re here for you!

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is a tricky business, and it’s great to learn the basics. This class will be introducing you, masters of the web, to SEO. We’ll be learning about:

• The Basics of SEO: breaking down a Google search result, why and how sites are ranked, and what ranking factors are the most important (or what we know about!)

• On-Page SEO: How to optimize your site’s pages properly, including meta and title tags, link structures and image optimization.

• Off-page SEO: How external links, video and social media (read: content) can play a part in your site’s ranking.

• Technical Aspects: We’ll learn some basic technical aspects of search, and what may be hurting or helping your site’s ranking.

• After you “SEO”: how to use tools like Analytics, Webmaster and other 3rd party tools to track your success.

We’ll also be touching on Black Hat v. White Hat SEO and local search.

Students will be able to walk away with tools and tricks that they can apply to their site tomorrow, along with a great knowledge base for further information (plus a budding love for SEO!).

REQUIREMENTS
No coding or website development skills needed. Bring your laptop - if you have a website, you'll be able to start optimizing it in class!

Lisa Mieskoski is a Content Engineer & SEO Specialist at Empower MediaMarketing. She spends her days knee deep in analytics, trying to understand user behavior and figuring out the best equation to get websites found in search results. When she’s not reverse engineering the web, Lisa likes to enjoy a nice glass of wine while attempting to convince the nice people of Cincinnati that Cleveland is just as amazing.

All attendees are expected to abide by the Girl Develop It Code of Conduct (http://girldevelopit.com/codeofconduct).

If we have less than 7 students registered for the class as of three days prior to the class start date, we will cancel the class. Any students registered at that time will be refunded their full registration fee.
