Web Skills 101

Not sure what web development means?

Want to build a cool website, but don't know where to start?

Tired of techies throwing around acronyms that make your head spin?

In this class, we will walk through the fundamentals of web development in layman terms. This class is for people with little to no technical experience!

Topics we'll cover:

• What's the difference between web development and web design?

• Where are web site files generally stored?

• What is the difference between a client and a server?

• What do you need to know before building a web site? What language should you use and what are the differences?

• What tools do you need to develop a web site?

• Who does what on a typical web development team?

• What is Web 2.0 and the Cloud?

Great class everyone! Looking forward to the next one! BTW Laura- is there a way to download the power point presentation from the class?

This was a great meetup, educational and good for networking with other women who are currently in Web development and who are interested in getting more into Web development. Clarified the different people/functions in web development very well.

I got a call from an unknown Area Code, yesterday. Are you 855?

I just found out about this class today & I am disappointed it is full! Since there is such a long waiting list, is there any chance the class will be offered again soon?

    April 25, 2014

    • Laura E.

Hi Susan, yes, we plan to offer it again. I don't know for sure how soon, but we will offer it as soon as possible. The computer lab only holds a limited number of people. I wish we could have a bigger class!

I was able to get in the class! See you tomorrow!

Have a stomach bug :( hope someone can grab my spot

  • Jessica H.

I went ahead and changed my RSVP too since it seems others need to go more and I'm not a beginner. I'll try to catch a future meeting! :)

    April 23, 2014

    • Laura E.

Thanks Jessica. That's very kind of you to give your spot away to a beginner. Looking forward to meeting you at a Code&Coffee or another upcoming class! With your degree you'd be a great fit for a TA or to teach a class someday, would you be interested in either of those?

      1 · April 24, 2014

    • Jessica H.

It's not a problem! I was really looking to brush up and meet like minded individuals. I could definitely help out as a TA, for the time being. I'd really like to see how the classes function before making a jump to teaching.

  • Keisha P

Hey ladies! Have any spaces become available?

    April 22, 2014

    • Laura E.

I'm glad you were able to get a spot in the class. See you Saturday!

      April 24, 2014

  • Patrice

Hi! I changed my RSVP and there is now a spot available. I will wait for the HTML/CSS class.

    April 23, 2014

  • Amanda S.

Sad face :-( Wishing this wasn't full.

Undoubtedly a silly question but laptops allowed for easier note taking? I'm a far quicker typist than writer!

    1 · April 9, 2014

    • Michelle

Hi Jessica! There will actually be computers in the lab for you to use, so no need to bring a laptop unless you prefer to use your own machine.

      April 9, 2014

    • Jessica H.

      All right, thanks, Michelle. :)

Good morning. Can't seem to locate the Amazon pay link/button. Help?

    April 7, 2014

    • Michelle

Hey Marina! The class is now free so no payment is required!

It's classes like this that sort of make me wish I was just getting into dev. There are so many more great resources for starting out than there were 6 years ago! Great class idea!

    • Erika C.

Agreed, and I only started 3 years ago! I'm so excited about this class! :)
