Introduction to WordPress Workshop

Introduction to WordPress Workshop

Details

Join Girl Develop It for an introductory look into all things WordPress. WordPress is a full-stack content management system that empowers anyone to create a professional website quickly.

This workshop is great for beginners with little or no coding experience who want to get up and running with a new website quickly, but is also great for experienced developers who haven't yet worked with WordPress and want to learn the basics so they can build out custom themes and plugins. And anyone in between.

This workshop is an introductory look into WordPress. You'll learn:

• the basics of creating a new WordPress site

• how to publish different types of content

• how to select, install, and configure themes

• how to find, install and configure plugins

• what a widget is and how to use one

• customization options that are available to you

• keeping your site safe and secure

Note: You do not need to have a WordPress site in order to attend this class.

If you already have a domain name and hosting account that you want to use during the class, please install WordPress before you come to class. At most hosting companies, this is very simple - just a few clicks. If you run into any issues, please contact us using the Contact link in the left column so we can help you get it sorted out before class.

If you don't have a domain name and hosting, no worries! You can still follow along by installing Desktop Server from ServerPress (http://serverpress.com/products/desktopserver/) on your computer. If you're using this option, please download and install Desktop Server before you arrive at class. If you run into any issues, please contact us using the Contact link in the left column so we can help you get it sorted out before class.

Suzette Franck has been in web development for over twenty years; she started making hand-coded HTML websites on geocities with font tags and tables back in 1995. Suzette is passionate about WordPress the application as well as the WordPress Open Source Community, and loves to code and teach others the wonders of WordPress. She is a purveyor of lowbrow art, and when she is not WordPressing, she is painting or visiting Los Angeles art galleries to add more work to her growing art collection.
