To make sure you're registered for the event, RSVP and get your ticket here: http://ladyhacks.ticketleap.com/philly-2013march (http://ladyhacks.ticketleap.com/philly-2013march/)
Philadelphia's Women in Tech community invites area women developers, designers, and students to Philadelphia’s first ever women-only hackathon.
If you’ve attended a Girl Geek Dinner (https://www.meetup.com/Girl-Geek-Dinners-Philadelphia) event, taken a class through us, dove into an online tech tutorial, participated in a PyStar or Hacktory workshop, or simply want to see what hackathons are all about, this is a great opportunity to take the skills you’ve learned and apply them to a collaborative project working with like-minded individuals.
The main goal is simply to get a room full of women interested in learning more about hackathons. If we do that, we've succeeded as organizers.
Secondary goals include:
Provide women who are new to software development a welcoming environment in which they can get their hackathon feet wet, understand that it isn't a scary place, and that, yes, they DO have the skills that are useful and necessary to participate in these types of events. Provide experienced women developers a chance to mentor up-and-coming developers (P.S. We're looking for mentors if you're interested in being one. Email Tristin at tristin at gmail dot com). Have project groups walk away from the event with a working prototype for their portfolio, confidence in themselves, and the desire to participate in future hackathons. Bonus: Groups continue working together to expand their working prototypes. Why a women-only hackathon? Through classes, workshops, communities, and numerous other opportunities, more and more women in Philadelphia are interested in development and are exploring career opportunities in technology. Women are already participating in the numerous hackathons that happen throughout the year locally, but a large gender gap still persists. After participating in this hackathon, it is our hope that more women will be encouraged to attend other similar events.
100% of your registration fee (minus any applicable processing charges) will be donated to TechGirlz and the Girl Develop It Philly scholarship fund.
Join us Friday, March 1st from 6pm to 9pm and Saturday from 9am to 5pm. Tickets are just $10 - http://ladyhacks.ticketleap.com/philly-2013march. (http://ladyhacks.ticketleap.com/philly-2013march/)
This event is led by Tristin Hightower of Girl Geek Dinners Philly (https://www.meetup.com/Girl-Geek-Dinners-Philadelphia).
