Free Street Harassment Workshop + Pot Luck with HollabackPHILLY
Details
Ever hear "hey baby!" while walking or riding your bike? Street harassment (also known as gender-based harassment in public by strangers) can have a huge impact on our well-being and access to public space. It's often brushed off as simply "life in the big city", but HollabackPHILLY (http://philly.ihollaback.org/) and other groups around the world are working to show that this problem is not inevitable - in fact, it's completely solvable.
HollabackPHILLY (http://philly.ihollaback.org/) (the Philly branch of the international movement to end street harassment, Hollaback!) will lead a story share and discussion on this issue. We'll talk about how you can empower yourself and others as well as:
• What exactly is street harassment?
• Why do people street harass?
• What should you do when it happens to you?
• What are some strategies for intervening if you see it happening?
• Why is sharing your harassment story powerful?
To top it off, we'll start the first hour with a pot luck! Bring your favorite dish or beverage to share, check out the grand and beautiful space at CityCoho and get to know each other before we start the workshop. Reserve your dish or get ideas of what to bring here: http://bit.ly/gdi-potluck .
Can't make the potluck? Join us at 7:30pm which is when we'll start the workshop.

This event is free and is for women and men. There will also be some cool items for sale including copies of HollabackPHILLY's anti-street harassment comic book and temporary tattoos. All proceeds go to furthering anti-street harassment work. HollabackPHILLY is an entirely volunteer-run organization and you can support them with a small donation at the event or through their site (http://www.feministpublicworks.org/support-us/).
