This class is for beginners who want to use WordPress as an easy, fast way to set up a blog or a website. We’ll guide you step-by-step through all the basic aspects of WordPress development including:
This WordPress course runs for four classes on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 7pm to 9pm. The class dates are as follows:
Prerequisites: A basic understanding of HTML/CSS and PHP is helpful but NOT necessary.
A little about Pam Selle, our Instructor: When I was younger, I thought the internet was basically the coolest thing ever. I’ve been working in the web world for approximately 3 years and build websites with Wordpress in my day job. I’m getting involved in GDI because I think others should experience the fun of seeing something YOU made appear on the web. In my spare time, I practice/teach yoga, ride my bicycle, and am involved with the Girl Geek Dinner Social Committee. You can find me on Twitter at @pamasaur.
Transportation: Drexel is right by the Market-Frankford line. Alternatively, parking is available at the Drexel Garage on 34th and Market for $7. For more options & directions, please see http://earlemacklaw.drexel.edu/about/directions.

Hi I was the one girl geek who didn't get it all installed 1st class. Since then successfully installed and running XAMPP after uninstalling Skype. Now having a problem with Wordpress installation. (error message w/PHP) Coming in early 2nd class so a geek guide can assist me so I don't fall behind in class!
Awesome, Leslie! I plan on being there at 6:30, and the most of the TAs tend to arrive early as well. See you soon!

Hi - Can anyone remind me how to start using our local site? I can't remember the name of the .php file we open in htdocs to get started.
Yes, I procrastinated on practicing :-}
Never mind, I googled and found my answer. Go to XAMP and http://local host if anyone else forgot.
DUH - How do we log into our wordpress site? When I go to https://wordpress.org/wp-login.php
it does not accept my info.
go to YOURURLHERE/wp-admin. it's probably localhost/wp-admin, unless you have your site inside a folder in your htdocs, then it's localhost/FOLDERNAME/wp-admin
The WordPress sites we are working on in class we installed locally on our computers. You would open up a browser and type in "localhost/foldername" "foldername" meaning the name of the folder you installed WordPress in. You also need to have XAMPP service running.
The Wordpress.org login is if you want to post to the Wordpress.org forums
