Intro to Designing User Experiences

Details

Want to design your application in a way that’ll make sense to your users? Not only that, how about if it delights, wows, and keeps your users coming back for more? After all, you want to make sure you’re building something people will actually want to use, right?

This will be a highly interactive and collaborative workshop covering User Experience Design. UX Design is prominent in the creation of any product, including websites and mobile applications. You’ll be introduced to the principles and process of UX Design. This workshop will include brainstorming sessions, design prototyping, visual design trends, and user testing. You'll work on group projects developing a product right from the outset through several deliverables to a final design.

We’ll start right at 10 am, have lunch a little after 12pm, and wrap up at 6 pm. (Lunch is included). Please make sure you stay till the very end (6 pm) because you'll be working on group projects throughout.

There are no prerequisites for this workshop, and a computer is not needed. You will not be learning software tools, but rather principles, methodologies, and process. Come with an open mind, and we'll teach you what you need to know to get started with UX Design!

This workshop will be taught by Gwen Brinsmead, a UI/UX designer at CircuitHub, and Sheba Najmi, a former Design Lead for Yahoo! Mail and an IxDA Award winning Code for America 2012 Fellow.

Here's what GDI members said about our last UX workshop:

"Thank you guys for a great workshop! It was great to not only meet everyone but the information itself was exactly what I was after in terms of gaining introductory knowledge of UX!" - Katya

"This was a really useful introductory class. The teachers, Gwen and Sheba, were clearly very knowledgable in their field, and presented the material in an accessible format. They provided just enough information for an intro class, and I was never bored. I highly recommend this class." - Rachel

“The Meetup was great - such a rich and powerful experience and everyone involved with the teaching was excellent!” - Karen

“Great overview of current UX best practices. Projects were well chosen with realistic deliverables. Really useful workshop, good group of attendees and lots of fun!” - Monique

“Fantastic class! Well organized and run. Instructors were packed full of information and led us through hands-on activities. I would highly recommend this for everyone.” - Adria

“It was wonderful meeting all you ladies. The hosts were wonderful and the project was fun! Please put on another UX workshop! :)” - Soo
