Girl Geek Academy Workshop - Pitching
Details
WELCOME TO THE #GGACADEMY!
A worldwide organisation that unites geek girls to teach & share.
Every month Girl Geek Academy hosts one 2 hour workshop on a different theme.
In July we learn to pitch together. To help us all learn how to pitch we have Dr Jess Murphy joining us. Dr Jess Murphy has several years experience both running her own business and working in corporates. She is an expert in leadership and diversity.
We hope you will join us, places are limited so get in quick!
Dinner is included in your ticket price.
Dr Jess Murphy's 5 tips for Pitching
-
Know your audience – research them, know how they got their start and try and weave your knowledge of them into the conversation (but take care not to come off as a stalker)
-
Know your strengths (play to them), know your weaknesses (minimise them) and know their biases (counteract them) – this is all about self awareness (yours and theirs)
-
Put yourself in their shoes – what differentiates you with everyone else? What will be your ‘X’ factor? Make sure you leave an impression.
-
Be succinct – what are your top 5 points? Now cull those 5 to only 3. Why are these your top 3 points? Explain each one with only 1 minute to each point.
-
Know your business model – money talks, make sure one of your points focuses on commerciality.

Girl Geek Academy Manifesto
Boldly going where no girl geeks have gone before. There are things to learn, mistakes to make and fun to be had. Where we go, we go together. We support-forward: we are there for each other before we even know we need help. We sometimes say no: We aren’t about being unhealthy, burnt out and undervalued. This means we say no to pizza at meetups, crazy long hours for hackathons and not being paid to teach. Emojis welcome :D We celebrate our achievements because they are achievements – not just because they are the achievements of women.
