I just found out about Thalys.com, you can buy very cheap train tickets to e.g. Paris or Brussels! We could do a day trip or stay a weekend from Saturday - Sunday ? Is anyone up for it ?? We can decide on the date later, maybe end of June / beginning of July ?

Hi Ladies - I'm already going to be in Paris that weekend with my mum!!! I had a look at www.skyscanner.de today, & there are flights for €113 if you depart on Friday and come back either Sunday or Monday... In terms of accommodation I would recommend www.airbnb.com Individuals put their apartments up for rent & you can search according to date, price, location, number of bedrooms etc. Sometimes the dates listed as available are not always accurate, so it's best to email a few people at a time & wait for a positive response before booking. A pull-out sofa in the lounge is often counted as a bedroom so you also need to read carefully for that. It's also helpful to look at the reviews written by people who have rented the apartment. When you register with air bnb, you also get an instant txt notification sent to your phone when you get a reply.

Air France has flights to Paris at EUR 100 return. There is also a train from the airport into the city for 9.50, taking only 30min http://www.easycdg.com/1/ground-transportation/rer-paris-train-metro-cdg-airport-charlesdegaulle/

However, I am a bit reluctant to book a flight, when there doesn't seem to be any set plans? Not sure if people are undecided about the trip, or maybe to busy to check e-mails?

It seems that we have to book Thalys a couple months in advance to get the best deals. If we want to take advantage of the cheap train tickets, maybe we should plan weekend trips a couple months ahead, perhaps over coffee in person?

If it has to be so early.... Ok

      September 12, 2013

To get that deal, it has to be that early in the morning. We can try to sleep on the train. The up side, is it gives us more time in Paris!!

So far I have 1 person interested in getting the group ticket with me, leaving early Saturday morning and coming back Monday evening. I need at least 3 people total, or up to 5 for the 78 euro per person group deal. Please let me know, ASAP, if you are interested, the details are in my previous comments. I could book one group ticket for 3-5 people, but it's non-refundable, so I would need to get the money off people quickly. The seats can sell fast, so the quicker we order them, the more likely we can secure the group ticket(s) at this price.

It seems those deals have run out for that weekend! :(

Hello ladies, I want to know if we considered booking hostels for accommodation or it's hotels or every person is on their own? I
Would really love to Join but I don't follow the conversation.also we can ask Thalys for a group booking to get a discount

    1 · August 18, 2013

    • Lori S.

A group discount on the train would be nice, they had some deals leaving Köln. It would be good to figure out the accomodations. Where is the best area to stay? I would prefer to stay in a hotel, maybe some of them are cheaper, just outside the tourist areas?

      August 19, 2013

    • Keitumetse

      I always use hostels

Here is the best deal, I found on Thaly's, leaving the Saturday had the cheapest price for 5 people - at 6:12 am, and returning Monday at 17:58. It's 195 for the 5 person group ticket each way. That's 390 euros total for 5 people, if we leave and return at these times. Also, a group ticket for 3 is 234 euros return. Same deal, it works out to 78 euros each return. The "adult and co" pricing. http://agence.ravel.tm.fr/weblogic/order/showComm1Command_normal.action Hopefully, these days and times work out for most of us, otherwise we could travel in two groups?? Who's in for leaving early Saturday morning, then returning Monday evening by train for this deal??

    August 20, 2013

    • Julia

I could go from Saturday morning till Monday evening. So you can count me into group ticket!

  • Mallika V.

Hello Girls, please give a concrete plan. I am very interested.

    August 21, 2013

  • Lori S.

Here is the link to check the pricing for the deal:

    https://www.thalys.com/de/en/offers-and-fares/adult-and-co

Sending this again too, since one of the dates was wrong!!

    http://agence.ravel.tm.fr/weblogic/order/showComm1Command_normal.action

We may want to act on this fast, since the seats are selling out for the return journey!! :)

    August 20, 2013

  • Lori S.

Checking flights through skyscanner, they start at 89 euro return. I am not sure what kind of group discount we could get for the train, but the tickets would probably all need to be purchased together for the deal??? We should figure it out soon, since the flight/train, hotel's can be cheaper with early bookings.

I'll get to Paris via train on wednesday or thursday and will stay at my Mom's place.

    August 20, 2013

  • Julia

Hi girls, I do not mind the train, especially if we can get discount and it has reasonable schedule and price. Maybe we just should publish a few options here and then choose. As for accommodation, I would also go for hotel altogether. Usually DBL rooms are cheaper, so after we have booked our trips by train or plane we can try to group us according to accommodation principle.

But lets figure our how we get there first and if we need 1 or 2 nights in the hotel.

How do we plan to travel? I just checked thalys and looks like 92 euro is one way, in this case flight can be cheaper and faster.... For example Lufthansa flying on Friday evening and return on Sunday evening is 94 euro with Opodo...

Just my 2 cents : Paris airports (whichever it is) mean it will take you an average of 1h30 hour to go to a specific place in Paris (if not more) - just to be kept in mind. Only to get out of Charles de Gaulle and go to the public transport takes 30 minutes.. this airport is such a labyrinth ! so cheaper yes, faster... not sure !

      August 19, 2013

    • Lori S.

I like the idea of flying if it's cheaper. We may get a group discount on the train, there seemed to be some better deals leaving from Köln, hbf.

I am back from business trip just on 19th, but hopefully still have forces to join for the weekend. Are we planning to go already on Friday?

      August 18, 2013

  • Suleika

I lived in Paris for a very long time and I confirm that you really need at least one entire WE to enjoy. I will be in Paris anyways on 21/22 Sep so maybe I would See you there ;-)

    August 17, 2013

  • Mallika V.

So girls, lets decide fast... I would also recommend Brussels on weekend

    August 1, 2013

  • Julia

Sounds like both destinations are interesting. Should we just divide in 2 groups: those to Brussels and those to Paris?

    July 31, 2013

  • Lori S.

I haven't been to Paris or Brussels, maybe we could do Paris another time! :)

    July 30, 2013

  • Aga

Hey girls. I lived in Paris and can tell you, that a day trip is way too short. We'll need the entire weekend....
I prefere Brussels, cause everybody knows Paris but not everybody has been to Brussels yet.
To make sure that everybody can come, we should organize for September maybe... August is very close now...

What about doing a trip with the Graf Reisen bus or the Job Tours bus? I just went to London with Graf this weekend - it's perfect, and cheap (paid 68 euros)!

Hi Girls. I would love to go to Brussels, Paris would skip, was there already 2 times. Some time after 13 August. Maybe 18th or 31st of August? Not whole weekend, but maybe departure on Friday and return on Saturday evening. In September maybe whole weekend even.

I am by car, so could take some people with me. Just only thing that I live in Kleve, so would need to coordinate travel plan a bit. And even see something else on the way.

How about a day trip to Brussels on Saturday 27th July? Train from Düsseldorf at 6:32am, leaving Brussels at 19:32pm ? It costs 106 Euros.

    June 18, 2013

I am a frequent traveller on Thalys : Brussels is feasible in one day, but Paris isn't...
