How to Disrupt Consumer Industries: Discussion with Women Tech Founders

Details

Please join Girls in Tech and ff Ventures for an evening of networking and panel discussion with leading women in consumer tech.

Jamie Lee, Girls in Tech co-organizer, will host a panel discussion with women entrepreneurs of consumer tech companies that are creating new markets by bridging existing consumer markets with new online markets. Our panelists will discuss their experience of developing and testing new business ideas in unchartered territories, tackling industry-specific issues with tech-based solutions, and the experience of building companies from the ground up.

This will be a great opportunity particularly for Girls in Tech members interested in entrepreneurship and consumer technology, and in developing new innovations to disrupt existing industries.

RSVP today, as space is limited. Refreshments will be served. A $10 donation will be collected at the door and donated to the Girls Club of LES (http://www.girlsclub.org/about).

Panelist bios:

Kate Pentkowski, Mulu
Kate is a Director of Business Development and head of NYC office at Mulu, an online tool making online pages shoppable. Prior to Mulu, she spent seven years working in New York City’s art world at various galleries, and also focused on bolstering international art programs through online tools. Mulu is Kate's third project with company CEO Amaryllis Fox. As one of the original members of the Mulu team, she feels strongly about building socially responsible business and the inevitable merger between content and commerce.

Abi Muller, Picki Picki
Abi is the founder and CEO of Picki Picki, which builds marketplaces allowing brands to control the reselling of their own products. She has two Congressional recognitions for Artistic Discovery and had her own fashion line which sold at 14 stores and boutiques across Manhattan by the time she was 17. In college, Abi worked with Peter Som and The Calvin Klein Celebrity Atelier to create runway finishes and red-carpet pieces. She has spoken at Assemble Fashion and TEDxHongKong.

Kelly Edison, Moveline
Kelly is the co-founder of Moveline, a TechStars NYC company that helps people who are moving get organized, compare prices, and hire movers they can trust. On the team, she leads product UX and marketing and spends as much time gathering feedback from customers and movers as possible. She loves experimenting with user testing methods and sharing techniques with other designers and founders. Before founding Moveline, Kelly worked in ad agencies developing content strategy and product concepts for brands like Mizuno and Shiner Beer. When she’s not working, she’s probably traveling to Seattle or running.
