GlobalNet21 has been working with Waltham Forest on a number of events and is supporting their first Child Poverty Conference on
5thFebruary 2014, 09:30 - 16:30, Walthamstow Assembly Hall.

To launch their new Child Poverty Strategy Cllr Karen Bellamy, Lead Member for Child and Family Poverty, will be introducing keynote speeches from:

o Fiona Twycross AM, "Zero Hunger City: Tackling Food Poverty in London", London Assembly Health Committee

o Ade Sofola, Child Poverty in London, 4 in 10 (Save the Children)

o Colin Bulworthy and Nalda Russell-Stowe, State Benefits - Managing the Changes, Enfield and Waltham Forest benefits leads

o Robert Bowley and Alan Thompson, Employment, Skills and Poverty, LBWF leads for Employment and Skills respectively

A unique themed lunch will be served, created especially by chefs at Waltham Forest College’s prestigious Mallinson training restaurant.

There will also be child poverty themed workshops exploring issues on:

o Public health

o Disability and social isolation (Reaching Out East)

o Lifting families out of poverty (Christians Against Poverty)

o Engagement with our children and young people

o Children’s centres – working to reach our poorest families

The conference will be a fantastic chance to share our wealth of knowledge surrounding child and family poverty work and to strengthen the networks between organisations in our borough and beyond.

We hope to leave colleagues from all disciplines inspired to innovate further and collaborate more as we work toward wiping out child poverty for good.

Places are free, but allocated on a first come, first served basis.

You Will Need To Pay Your Annual Subscription to Attend

Although membership of our site is free we do expect all those who attend our events to pay an annual subscription that covers attendance not just one meeting but also to the vast majority of our meetups and webinars for any one year. It also allows you to bring one guest free to every meeting or webinar.
