Brazen New Year's Day 13.1/6.2/3.1

HIT 2013 RUNNING A 5K, 10K OR HALF MARATHON! Update: As of 12/16/12, the 5K is 100% full except for entries reserved for donation runners (see registration page for details on those slots). New Year hoodies now available!

Time to start your year of running off with the first of many Brazen Racing trail runs for 2013!

Come enjoy the morning of New Year's Day at the beautiful Lake Chabot Marina in Castro Valley for the scenic 5K, 10K or half marathon.

And if that's not enough New Year running for you, come on 12/29 and run your pre-race race! Learn about the New Year's Eve race here.

Those participating in both the Brazen New Year's Eve and the Brazen New Year's Day races (any distance combination) will be eligible for the 2013 Brazen New Year Mega-Medal!

For the more adventurous, you can run the "Brazen New Year Marathon" (= two half marathons, one on 12/29 and one on 1/1) and then brag to your friends: "It took me two years to finish that marathon"! The half marathon runners will run the same course both days, but in different directions each day.

All courses include rolling, but mostly very runnable hills. Because there is always a chance of rain before and (hopefully not) during the race, the courses chosen are generally "wet weather" friendly. This means the 5K will be entirely on paved trails around the lake. The 10K course is roughly 50% on paved trails and 50% on dirt trails. The half marathon is approximately 30% on paved trails 70% on dirt trails.

So whether you are an experienced trail runner or a first-timer ready to get your feet dirty, you should thoroughly enjoy these races. Hikers/walkers are always welcome!

All runners will receive custom finisher medals and custom shirts (cotton and tech shirts available). More info on shirts/awards page.

Age group awards will be awarded to the top 3 finishers in 5 year categories (less for the younger ages).

Start times will be: 8:30am for the half marathon, 8:55am for the 10K and 9:05am for the 5K.

For half marathon participants who wish to hike the course and take more than 3.5-4 hours, we will offer a "Hiker Start" at 7:30 am. Those starting at 7:30 should carry water as the first and second aid stations might not be 100% up and running, depending on the hikers speed. Hiker starts will not be eligible to win the race or for age group awards, but will be listed as official finishers in the Hikers Division and will still receive finisher medals.

All races will be professionally timed.

Shirts are guaranteed to those who sign up by 12/12. We will order extras, but cannot guarantee size, so we recommend early registration.

About Lake Chabot

Lake Chabot Reservoir was built in[masked] as a primary source of water for the East Bay. The 315 acre lake was closed to recreation for 91 years until legislation opened it up in the 1960s. Today the lake serves as a standby emergency water supply and is a favorite of local fisherman looking for trout, catfish, bass and other fish.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
