For the most part, writers create in a vacuum and without any encouragement except the monthly bills stacking up. Why write screenplays? Obviously, we're optimistic — as many are written, many less are optioned and even fewer options exercised. Screenwriting is the kind of work that creates moments in life where anything can happen — both to you, personally, when you're en route to having your movie produced, and for your audience waiting with baited breath for the next twist or turn in your plot. Movies are still the ultimate escapism for your Average Joe & Jane — especially in these troubled times. For most of us writers, writing these stories is our ultimate escapism.
This group was created to put a room full of screenwriters in one place every month so that you can meet with others regarding your work, breakthroughs, frustrations and to find common ground with a local community. Let's face it, this isn't Hollywood — where you'll find a screenwriter on their laptop in every booth at the local Denny's at 1:AM ordering coffee and pounding away on their next blockbuster.
Once in a while, we'll have a professional from the industry come in and speak about the craft. AND — in January - come join us at Sundance Film Festival.
This IS NOT, nor ever will it be, a critique group. This is the place to meet others who live in proximity to you so that you can build your own critique groups. Find people working in your own genre — and go, be, write!
Cheers,
Sally
