New Meetup: Poetry Hike: Mt. Tam East Peak

From: David
Sent on: Thursday, December 2, 2010 11:27 AM
Announcing a new Meetup for Golden Gate Hikers!

What: Poetry Hike: Mt. Tam East Peak

When: Sunday, December 12,[masked]:30 AM

Where: Manzanita Park & Ride
Hwy 101 at Shoreline Hwy 1
Mill Valley, CA 94941

The Hike:
This is a moderate 8-mile loop from Mountain Home Inn up to the East Peak of Mt. Tamalpais. If the day is clear we'll have great views across the whole Bay Area during the hike.

Suitable for strong beginner hikers ready for a good workout. Bring at least 2 liters of water and lunch.

Meeting Details:
Due to limited parking at the trailhead, we will meet at 10:30 am at the Manzanita Park and Ride lot off US-101 north of Sausalito. We'll carpool from there to the Mtn. Home Inn parking area. See driving directions below.

Weather Cancellation:
If the forecast for Sausalito is greater than 40% chance of rain, then I will cancel the hike. Use the hourly forecast tab to see the percentage chance.

I can take three passengers - please contact me directly. I'll be leaving from the Outer Richmond neighborhood in SF.

No "Maybe" RSVPs:
Since the hike size is limited, please do not respond Yes unless you are sure you will be attending.

What is a Poetry Hike?
If you like, bring a short poem or an excerpt of a longer one. Two or three times during the hike, we'll stop briefly and people can recite the poems they brought. This is completely optional, and the stops will be brief. You can bring poetry from the literature or your own. More poetry at lunch. This is something I did for years as a hike leader in Washington DC and it was a lot of fun.

Driving Directions:
From the Golden Gate Bridge, take US-101 north to exit 445B for Mill Valley/Stinson Beach. The exit lane curves left under US-101 and comes to a traffic light. Turn left at the light into the Manzanita Park and Ride. I have a silver Mazda3 hatchback with a Yakima roof rack.
